The clinical benefit of this project will be in improved success rates and reduced mortality and risk in surgery and intensive care units. The Information and communication technology (ICT) benefit of this project is associated with the novel online algorithms and models aligned with the stream data research, and will be enhanced by our stream compression techniques. The stream data analyser developed in this project will be suitable for more than medical surveillance data; it will also improve the processing of other kinds of massive stream data (for example data from remote sensors, communication networks and other dynamic environments). The project involves a scientifically rich collaboration that will enhance the skills of PhD students and staff and drive the field forward.Read moreRead less
Development of methods to address internet crime. If this research accomplishes successfully, it will be a big step forward in terms of traceback scope, accuracy, usability and deployment. This will empower authorities to control and punish Internet crimes more effectively and efficiently. It will also limit the damage caused by Internet crimes quickly. For example, if we can quickly identify the origins of a fast spreading virus, we will be able to prevent its propagation as fast as possible. I ....Development of methods to address internet crime. Enhancing privacy preserving in dynamic cyberspace. This project aims to develop a novel infrastructure operational monitoring and management strategy to reduce the redundant maintenance actions and achieve a cost-effective approach for civil infrastructure asset management. The project will use multiple social networks as a platform for the project, with the potential for the results to be extended to any dynamic cyberspace. Project outcomes will include a set of new analysis theories and tools ....Enhancing privacy preserving in dynamic cyberspace. Project outcomes will include a set of new analysis theories and tools to facilitate government, companies, individuals, and organisations to enhance their information gathering and privacy-preserving capabilities. This is expected to enhance the credibility of the government and organisations and save the possible financial loss of companies and individuals.Read moreRead less

Australian e-Research Grid. The e-Research Grid program will research and implement core Grid technologies on APAC and partner's deployed HPC resources, to underpin a broad range of Australian research. The computer science CIs will form collaborative links with international programs, adapting developments to local circumstances. The applications-domain CIs will leverage those into their scientific simulations and databases, using grid integrative techniques and portals. Many CIs participate in ....Australian e-Research Grid. Many CIs participate in other RNs linking to their motivating applications, enhancing prospects for research and integration. They participate in the APAC Grid program, leveraging 75 HPC staff nationally. A key aim is interoperability with "real-world Grids": eg e-learning & e-health programs.Read moreRead less
Adoption of electronic commerce-enabled supply chain management: a trans-national comparison study. The framework developed will allow practitioners to identify an appropriate strategy to promote the adoption of EC-enabled SCM in developing countries. By including Indonesia and China as two of Australia's large trading partners in this study, the relationships can be further enhanced, leading to an increase in Australia's export market and improvement in national productivity and growth. By including Indonesia and China as two of Australia's large trading partners in this study, the relationships can be further enhanced, leading to an increase in Australia's export market and improvement in national productivity and growth. Through wider adoption of EC-enabled SCM by Australia's trading partners, Australia can trade with them more efficiently. The empirical data and the research instruments developed will also enhance Australia's research standing and contribute to university teaching and research training. Read moreRead less

Popular web services can experience severe downtimes as the result of heavy traffic. Enabling coordinated and cooperative content delivery between existing Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) will allow a CDN provider to rapidly 'scale-out' without investing in new infrastructure, to meet both flash crowds and anticipated increases in demand. Improved cost effectiveness, performance and locality for providers and end-users can be achieved by leveraging existing infrastructure provided by other CDNs, creating economies of scale that were previously impossible. This is crucial for uses on the so-called edges of the internet (e.g. Australia) that depend on a small number of expensive data links to the major data centres in Europe and the USA.Read moreRead less

This will empower authorities to control and punish Internet crime and terrorism. It will also greatly reduce the damage caused by Internet crime and terrorism. The prototype of the distributed information correlation tracing system can possibly be patented or even be commercialised. The capability of a nation to trace the real source of any attacks on its information infrastructure is central to the control of such attacks and hence to a nation's long-term survival and prosperity.Read moreRead less

This project aims to develop an innovative data sharing system, with a mathematically provable privacy guarantee, in a cloud environment. This will be adopted by Australian Education Management Group’s (AEMG) cloud campus to exchange data in a restricted privacy manner between partner institutions. It will be commercialised as a middleware that can be plugged into existing cloud environments to maintain required privacy even when the cloud crosses various jurisdictions with different privacy policies. The outcomes will benefit educational organisations, and lay the foundations for data sharing in other communities such as the government, banks, and other industries in Australia.Read moreRead less
