2026 ARDC Annual Survey is now open!

The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure services including Reasearch Link Australia.

We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.

Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

Complete the 5 min survey now by clicking on the link below.

Interactions of geometry and knot theory. This project aims to use recent breakthroughs in hyperbolic geometry and Kleinian groups to relate geometry to knots which are mathematical objects arising in microbiology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics. Interactions of geometry and knot theory. This project aims to use recent breakthroughs in hyperbolic geometry and Kleinian groups to relate geometry to knots which are mathematical objects arising in microbiology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics. Knots are often studied via the space around them known as the knot complement. Knot complements decompose into geometric pieces, and the most common geometry is hyperbolic, which completely determines a knot. However, how to obtain information on the hyperbolic geometry of a knot from a classical description is unknown. This project will obtain information by uncovering results that would enable classification of even extremely complicated knots, and could affect mathematics and other fields.

Ricci flow has attracted major attention in pure mathematics over the past 30 years, including ground-breaking contributions by Perelman on Ricci flow regarding the famous Poincare and Thurston's Geometrisation Conjectures. The project focuses on the complex version of Ricci flow: Kahler-Ricci flow. The project plans to explore the Kahler-Ricci flow in the closed and complete non-compact settings and the corresponding versions of Geometric Minimal Model Program; and the Kahler-Ricci flow in the Fano manifold setting and stability conditions.

The aim of this project is to introduce and apply new methods and invariants in the field of low-dimensional topology by developing parametrised and equivariant enhancements of Seiberg-Witten theory and Floer homology. These new refined invariants, made possible by recent advances in gauge theory, will be more powerful than existing ones, enabling the detection of new exotic phenomena. Expected outcomes include effective means for distinguishing families of spaces, measuring their complexity and new obstructions for their existence. The new invariants and techniques will lead to the resolution of some open problems in low-dimensional topology and enhance Australia's reputation as a world leader in this field.

Curvature flows are a class of geometrically motivated equations, modelled on the heat equation. Recently, researchers have developed new methods for studying the regularity of solutions to these equations, and applied them to a different problem, that of estimating quantities depending on the smaller eigenvalues of a Schroedinger operator. This project builds on the early success of this research and will produce a new understanding of the behaviour of eigenvalues, establish sharp estimates for spectral quantities, particularly on manifolds with curvature bounds, and find optimal conditions under which non-compact solutions to curvature flows are stable.

Towards a new concrete theory of cohomology: a fundamental concept in geometry. This project will develop a geometric linearisation method related to Witt vectors, an exotic but important number system. This will let us take one more step towards solving a fifty-year-old mystery: to find the elusive universal linearisation in algebraic geometry, which is the linearisation that controls all the others.

The aims of this project are to construct novel geometric theories based on newly discovered tensor categories, to apply the theories to solve open problems in representation theory, algebra and category theory, and to establish profitable new connections between the influential theories of affine group schemes and classifying spaces. The geometric theories will be developed in a universal way, generalising both classical algebraic geometry and super geometry from physics, and specialising to infinitely many new theories. This universality ensures a significantly broader basis for long term applications of geometry in many areas of science. Other benefits include enhanced international collaboration and scientific capacity in Australia.

Inverse Problems For Partial Differential Equations - A Geometric Analysis Perspective. This project will study mathematical models of various medical imaging techniques. These problems are formulated as inverse problems in partial differential equations (PDE) where one wishes to obtain information about a differential equation from data about its solutions. This problem is not well understood in the geometric setting where the PDE is taking place on a manifold and the goal of this research is to advance the field in this direction. This project will introduce novel and innovative ideas from geometry and topology to overcome some of these difficulties. This project will enrich mathematics by providing links between different fields. Furthermore, it will enable the application of imaging techniques in a broader geometric setting to provide more efficient and accurate non-invasive detection techniques.

Springer fibres, nilpotent cones and representation theory. This project will address new ideas and famous unsolved problems in the field of algebra known as representation theory, by studying the geometry of spaces called Springer fibres and nilpotent cones. This will keep Australian mathematics in the forefront of developments in this internationally active field, which is central to modern mathematics.
