Smart astronomy: using computational science to understand distant radio galaxies. Radio galaxies are among the largest galaxies in the universe with their copious radio emission powered by massive black holes. Australian radio telescopes are very effective at tracing these massive galaxies back in time so we can measure how black holes formed and developed. Until now this identification process has been straightforward, but the next generation of studies will look so far back in time that the identification will become ambiguous. The Australian Virtual Observatory. The Australian Virtual Observatory, which is part of the International Virtual Observatory is an ambitious program to consolidate all astronomical data online, in a form which will be accessible to both professional astronomers and also to the wider public. The project will link data, computational resources, high level software and people in an advanced network, which will maximise investment in one of Australia's highest profile scientific programs.
The flotation of oxide minerals using hydroxamate collectors. Australian and world mineral resources are declining in quality as we exploit the richest sulfidic ore deposits. This is increasing our reliance on concentration and beneficiation processes to improve the economics of the selective recovery of minerals from lower grade and, increasingly, oxide or lateritic ore bodies. In addition, greater emphasis is being placed on our environmental stewardship and the need to remove hazardous mater ....The flotation of oxide minerals using hydroxamate collectors.
