Funding Amount
$85,827.00
Summary
Diabetes imposes a significant health and economic burden on Australia. This burden is set to increase as the population becomes older and risk factors for diabetes, such as obesity, become more common. The main aims of the proposed project are: 1. To develop computer-based models that will predict future patterns of diabetes and its complications in Australia. 2. To use these models to determine effective and cost-effective ways to reduce the future burden of diabetes in Australia.
Epidemiology, Costs And Clinical Outcomes Of Inflammatory Bowel Disease In Victoria

National Health and Medical Research Council
Funding Amount
$66,881.00
Summary
The inflammatory bowel diseases, Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, are chronic inflammatory disorders of the gastrointestinal tract. The number of people in Australia with these conditions is unknown and the impact of illness is also poorly defined. This research aims to establish the number of people developing these conditions in a region of Australia. In addition the impact in terms of personal and health economic costs, quality of life and psychological effect will be determined.
Cardiovascular Disease(CD) affected 3.67 million Australians in 2001. In 2002, it accounted for 37.6% of deaths. Nationally, development and implementation of strategies ensuring up-to-date, multi-disciplinary, cost-effective, and sustainable care for all Australians is needed. This project aims to explore current and future models of management of CD with a particular focus on drug use and health economics. It is hoped that this project will inform the development of improved health policy.

Funding Amount
$65,040.00
Summary
To optimise the management of patients with AF, we will conduct an intervention clinical trial, the goal of which is to develop and implement a care program that aims to improve the health of patients with AF. This will be done by comparing the usual care that patients would normally receive in hospital and in the community with a specialised and individualised health care program - the Standard vs Atrial Fibrillation spEcific managemenT studY (SAFETY).
