Summary
Osteoporosis is a major public health problem resulting in 50-75,000 fractures each year in Australia costing the community about 800 million dollars per annum. Bone strength is a risk factor for fractures in both childhood and in later life. Relatively little is known about bone development with the exception of calcium intake and physical activity.
