2026 ARDC Annual Survey is now open!

The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure services including Reasearch Link Australia.

We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.

Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

Complete the 5 min survey now by clicking on the link below.

Modelling of Pulse Current Parameters and Design of Fuzzy Logic Controller for Uniform Metal Transfer in Pulsed Gas Metal Arc Welding of Aluminium Alloy. The use of aluminium alloys in automotive and aerospace industry is growing across the world. In order to improve the use of aluminium alloy in various industries, the welding process for aluminium need to be improved. The objective of this research is to develop an intelligent controller for welding power source, which is capable of selecting process parameters automatically for varying pulse conditions in welding of aluminium alloys. The fundamental understanding about development of proposed intelligent system with smart controller for uniform metal transfer will create global interest across the welding industry and will create a new market potential throughout world where use of aluminium as a base material is growing.

Studies on the Weld Characterstics and Weldability of Welded Joints with Alternate Supply of Shileding Gases in Welding. In today's dynamic changing environment, for industries to remain internationally competitive, traditional manufacturing techniques used for welding have to become more flexible and intelligent to attain better adaptability and higher productivity. In industrial applications of MIG/MAG welding processes, various types of shielding gases are used based on type of work material and weld quality required. In this proposed research, experimental studies will be conducted on welding productivity by using different shielding gas combinations. The aim of this project is to conduct experimental analysis on weld arc phenomenon, weld pool behavior, and weld quality and to build an intelligent system for the selection of optimum combination shielding gas mixtures. In addition this study also aims to examine how the microstructure and mechanical properties of different welds are influenced by the use of different shielding gases combinations.

Nano-structured sol-gels synthesised under microgravity conditions. This project aims to study the nano-structured silica formation under microgravity conditions using a sol-gel process. In the absence of gravitional forces and associated free convective disturbances, the sol reaction in our preliminary testing with NASA has revealed fundamental reorganisation in nano properties (i.e. fractal dimension, pore size, surface area and pore volume) as compared to tests carried out under normal gravity conditions. This is a key feature of scientific interest for the production of nanomaterials for applications such as linear and non-linear optical materials and quantum materials.

Visuomotor Adaptation and Stimulus Response Compatibility: Basic Mechanisms and Safety Implications for Heavy Equipment. This project will explore mechanisms of human visuomotor adaptation using a directional stimulus-response compatibility (SRC) paradigm. The latter refers to the greatly enhanced performance for ?natural? pairings of control movement directions and system output directions. The outcomes are both theoretical (understanding basic processes) and applied (design and training guidelines for equipment in construction, mining, transport and aerospace industries). The issue is also significant both theoretically, since models of adaptation and SRC phenomena have not previously been combined, and practically, as serious heavy equipment accidents can result from designs that are not based on sound human performance principles.
