Bringing indigenous knowledge into early childhood settings. This project will produce a negotiated model of Indigenous teaching and learning in early childhood settings by documenting the diversity of Indigenous knowledge from the Northern Territory. This model will be suitable for sharing with Indigenous and non-Indigenous children within the early childhood sector. Adolescence in Contemporary China: Social Change, Future Directions and Implications for Australia. China has one-fifth of the world's adolescents. In the last two decades, this age-group has become the focus of unprecedented public and policy debate across all areas of Chinese life. Yet the literature contains no scholarly synthesis of these debates that explains China's 'adolescent phenomenon' and its overall significance. This project offers the first, sustained analysis of contemporary Chine ....Adolescence in Contemporary China: Social Change, Future Directions and Implications for Australia. China has one-fifth of the world's adolescents. In the last two decades, this age-group has become the focus of unprecedented public and policy debate across all areas of Chinese life. Local Culture/Global Space: Japanese Minority Sexualities and the Internet. After English (43%), Japanese (9%)is the most used language on the Internet. No study has addressed the specific ways in which Japanese language use affects Internet communication or how the Internet is being used by minoritised groups and individuals. The project will examine Internet use by minority sexualities in Japan in order to ascertain how individuals and communities who fall outside the 'mainstream' of society i ....Local Culture/Global Space: Japanese Minority Sexualities and the Internet. This project aims to provide a deep understanding of the manner in which Black (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, African and Afro-diasporic) people understand their children’s situation. While dominant conceptions of childhood are typically assumed to be universal, they generally take the figure of the white child, emerging out of a predominantly European body of knowledge, as paradigmatic. This project seeks to expand, reconfigure and present a more complex underst ....Seeing the Black Child. My Island Home - Construction of cultural identity for Torres Strait Islanders who migrated to the mainland post World War Two. The aims of the research are to examine 1) the construction of cultural identity for Torres Strait Islanders who migrated to Cairns during 1946 to 1955 and 2) to identify issues in relation to the construction and maintenance of cultural identity; the Islander's 'integration' into Australian society; and the transitional processes they negotiated in establishing new com ....My Island Home - Construction of cultural identity for Torres Strait Islanders who migrated to the mainland post World War Two. The aims of the research are to examine 1) the construction of cultural identity for Torres Strait Islanders who migrated to Cairns during 1946 to 1955 and 2) to identify issues in relation to the construction and maintenance of cultural identity; the Islander's 'integration' into Australian society; and the transitional processes they negotiated in establishing new communities away from the Torres Strait. This project is significant as it is one of the very few research projects conducted by a Torres Strait Islander on this issue, and its outcome will be a new perspective on the migration and culture of Torres Strait Islander people.
