2026 ARDC Annual Survey is now open!

The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure services including Reasearch Link Australia.

We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.

Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

Integrating Basic, Clinical And Applied Research To Prevent Tooth Decay

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $313,677.00
    Summary
There is nothing quite like the searing intensity of dental pain to remind us of the value of healthy teeth. When our children are afflicted the effects can be devastating for families and clinicians. Sadly, many Australian children must bear this pain due to a widespread developmental condition called Molar Hypomineralisation (MH). The proposed translational research project seeks to reduce the pain associated with MH by providing new treatment approaches and ultimately prevention.

Strengthening Oral Health Workforce Governance: A Qualitative-quantitative Investigation Of Workforce Integration Approaches In England And Australia

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $423,768.00
    Summary
Health workforce governance provides stewardship to the future of health systems. This fellowship study seeks a novel solution to oral health workforce governance and brings the transformative potential to improve coordination and reduce negative impacts of a fragmented oral health care system. A two-way parallel design is planned in England and Australia, best utilising the available methodological expertise and proposing an innovative interdisciplinary approach.

Understanding The Role Of Psychological Factors In The Etiology, Prevention And Treatment Of High Dental Fear

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $344,007.00
    Summary
Despite dental fear being one of the most common fears experienced by Australians, the etiology of this serious condition is still not well understood and both the prevention and treatment of dental fear are not widely or effectively implemented. This project aims to better understand the psychological processes at work in determining dental fear through further research as well as by gaining first hand experience at one of only a handful of dental fear research clinics in the world.

The Common Risk Factor Approach To Assess Relationships Between Dental Caries And Adiposity In Disadvantaged Preschool Children

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $346,449.00
    Summary
Dental decay and obesity in early childhood continues to be a significant health concern in Australian children. Current evidence suggests that these diseases are highly prevalent among children living in disadvantaged areas but the evidence of the relationship is limited. This increases their risk to carry the burden in adulthood. The present proposal uses a "common risk factor approach" to explore relationships between dental decay and obesity in disadvantaged preschool children in Australia.

Human Neural Development In The Absence Of Species-expected Stimuli: The Effect Of Maternal Or Social Deprivation On Maturation Of Emotion Circuitry During Critical Periods Of Development.

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $465,103.00
    Summary
As children mature into adolescents, social influences on emotional responding transition from parents to peers. Understanding how social stimuli shape neural circuits that ultimately regulate emotional behaviour will yield critical information for treatment and prevention of emotional disorders across the lifespan. The current project addresses this important issue through the use of functional imaging of emotion circuits in the brain and classical conditioning approaches to emotion responding.

Identification Of Genes Responsible For Disorders Of Sexual Development Using Genome-wide Copy Number Analysis

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $305,774.00
    Summary
Congenital conditions in which development of the gonads or anatomical sex is abnormal are surprisingly common. The underlying cause of these problems is most often the failure of genes responsible for the proper development of testes or ovaries. Only a small proportion of patients can be explained by mutations in known gonad determining genes. We will analyse DNA from these patients on very high density microarrays to identify new genes that cause abnormalities in testis or ovary development.

Investigating A Theoretical Model Of Cognitive Control In Children With Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD): Informing Our Approach To Cognitive Training.

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $318,768.00
    Summary
ADHD is the most common childhood developmental disorder, characterised by inattentive and/or hyperactive behaviours. Cognitive control has been highlighted as a potential mediator of ADHD symptoms. This program will i) delineate the relationship between cognitive control and ADHD symptoms, ii) develop a cognitive training intervention to target the underlying mechanisms identified as mediators of ADHD symptoms and iii) evaluate the program in a gold-standard clinical trial.
