Summary
The Chaotic Transition from War to Peace in Soviet-Occupied Europe, 1945-53. Historians are struggling to understand the complexities of the chaotic and violent transition from war to peace in Soviet-occupied Europe after the second World War. This project seeks to apply an innovative methodology to newly declassified archival data so as to compare the experiences of social collapse, famine and reconstruction across this region. Historians are struggling to understand the complexities of the chaotic and violent transition from war to peace in Soviet-occupied Europe after the second World War. This project seeks to apply an innovative methodology to newly declassified archival data so as to compare the experiences of social collapse, famine and reconstruction across this region. This broad comparative approach aims to address the unresolved question of why violence against the Soviet state, culminating in insurgency, emerged in some areas and not others. The resulting publications have the potential to change the way we think about the effects of insurgency and counter-insurgency on post-war Soviet development. The Power of Giving: Australian Women Philanthropists, 1880-2000. This collaborative project with the National Foundation for Australian Women explores the changing extent and nature of Australian women's philanthropic giving since1880. It will test the hypothesis that these activities both reflected broader constructions of gender and shaped civil society and public policy. The project will provide access to unavailable materials that record the perspectives and voices of Aboriginal participants in contemporary political history, including primary source material collected and donated by individuals and community-controlled organisations. Crawford was a leading member of a generation of public servants who recast the practices of government, in this case through a particular focus on Australia's role in our region and among developing countries.

Financial dispossession: a history of Indigenous peoples and stolen wages in Victoria. This project will investigate the history and impact of past Victorian government policies on stolen wages on Victorian Indigenous communities. The project will further the understanding of these stolen wages policies and assist in the campaigns for justice for those Indigenous people affected by these policies.
A Great and Crying Need: A History of Kew Residential Services, 1887-2007, through Innovative Textual, Oral, Aural and Experiential Media. This original history of Kew Residential Services (KRS), formerly known as Kew Cottages, will trace the lives of its residents from 1887, analysing the changing discourses, policies and practices for people with intellectual disability. It will analyse the history of Kew Residential Services in terms of a modern society's shifting response to difference. From France to Europe: The Shift from Nationalism in French Discourse, 1900-1950. The aim of the project is to analyse a shift from France to Europe in French political rhetoric. The Revolution had inscribed Enlightenment ideals on terms like France and nation. After World War I, they no longer carried these ideals. For some citizens, Europe took them on. For others, Europe opened the possibility of inscribing new values on the polity. This project will research and write the history of the Melbourne based Anglican welfare organisation, the Brotherhood of St Laurence since its foundation. It will be a multi-focussed history, which will reassess the Brotherhood's origins in the social divisions of the depression, examine its culture, including the interaction between its religious and secular missions, investigate its record of innovative social policy and service delivery, ....History of the Brotherhood of St Laurence, 1930-2003. This project will research and write the history of the Melbourne based Anglican welfare organisation, the Brotherhood of St Laurence since its foundation. It will be a multi-focussed history, which will reassess the Brotherhood's origins in the social divisions of the depression, examine its culture, including the interaction between its religious and secular missions, investigate its record of innovative social policy and service delivery, and interrogate its changing relationship with the local communities where it has a physical presence.
