electronic access to seminal documents: rare, colonial, post-colonial. The world is ensnared in the legacies of 19th-century colonialism. Whether in international relations (e.g., the borders of Afghanistan) or critical theory (Edward Said and followers), the "colonial project" affects our lives. Yet many seminal documents from which "the colonial" grew are rare and seldom read, even by researchers. Using experience developed and used in earlier projects , this project will identify a dozen such seminal documents from the British experience in South Asia, digitize them, index them, give them contextual notes and put them on the Web to enhance the access and understanding of Australian and international scholars.Read moreRead less

The rate-determining step in the next generation of analysis and modelling calculations requires access to massively parallel supercomputers. In Western Australia, there are a number of critical and unique projects that are totally dependant on such facilities. The Western Australian Supercomputer Program (WASP) will provide a quantum advance to computationally-intensive scientific research, as well as to world-class visualisation and data-management resources for academic and business communities, both nationally and internationally.Read moreRead less

This project aims to establish terahertz measurement capabilities to further Australia's strength and momentum in terahertz research. This will comprise of two terahertz extension modules, working with a dedicated vector-network analyser, and high-precision probes and probe station. The project will enable point-feeding, monochromatic, coherent, and fine spectral-resolution measurement at an atmospheric window of 220-330 GHz. The capabilities are essential for development of two-dimensional materials, active components, waveguides, and antennas towards a common goal of efficient integrated terahertz devices and systems. The project will serve emerging terahertz applications including standoff imaging and short-range high-speed data transmission. This will have broad impact in the areas of surveillance, biomedicine, security, and public safety and well-being.Read moreRead less
