IVF and Assisted Reproductive Technologies: The Global Experience. The 40th anniversary of the birth of the first baby conceived through in vitro fertilisation (IVF) will occur in 2018. Popular Cultures and Social Change: Case Studies from Rural Queensland. Two APAI students will study patterns of popular cultural participation and performance in rural/regional Queensland based on selected case studies. Victorian Ethnographers: collecting and contesting racial knowledge in the settler colonial laboratory. Using new archival and museum collections, 'Victorian Ethnographers' investigates the connections between anthropology, the governance of Aboriginal peoples and the history of colonialism in south-eastern Australia. This project will produce new knowledge about the local and global networks that shaped Victorian anthropology and its legacies.
The humanity of man and animal in Ancient Greece. This project aims to explore how the line between humans and animals is drawn and re-drawn in a number of ancient world texts and contexts, including language, history, literature, art, religion and science. As the real and imagined cradle of Western civilisation, the ancient Greek world is frequently invoked in current debates about what separates humans from animals. This project traces how international interactions between Australian and Indian women's activists were sustained and expanded during the Cold War. Understanding these nuanced interactions in difficult circumstances offers insights into how to nurture today's relationships between students, businesses and the cultural industries of both countries.

It promotes national research on the interpretation of place in social analysis, and the publications produced respond to commercial needs for high-level interpretative place-based studies in the tourism industry.
