2026 ARDC Annual Survey is now open!

The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure services including Reasearch Link Australia.

We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.

Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

Complete the 5 min survey now by clicking on the link below.

    HOST-MICROBE INTERACTIONS IN CROHN'S DISEASE

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $323,603.00
    Summary
Crohn’s disease (CD), an inflammatory disorder of the gut, is thought to result from an inappropriate response to an environmental trigger, likely gut bacteria. This project will assess differences in microbial communities and host gene expression of early- and late-stage CD tissues. A greater understanding of the differences in mucosal gene expression induced by specific bacteria may provide insights into the pathophysiology of CD, and could conceivably guide therapeutic choices in the future.

Emu Oil And Protection From Experimentally-induced Ulcerative Colitis And Crohn's Disease

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $316,449.00
    Summary
The inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), encompassing ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, are chronic intestinal inflammatory disorders of unknown cause. Current treatments for IBD are variably effective highlighting the need for improved therapeutic approaches. Emu Oil is reported to exert potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Using well established experimental models, we seek to determine the potential efficacy and underlying mechanism of Emu Oil action in acute and chronic IBD.

The Causes, Treatment, And Prognosis Of Thyroid Disease

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $190,445.00
    Summary
The thyroid gland controls body metabolism and is crucial to life. Disorders of the thyroid place a severe burden on the health system. Yet despite this, much is unknown about the causes, optimal treatments, and prognosis of thyroid disease. In this NHMRC Early Career Fellowship, Don aims to advance knowledge and improve treatments of these common conditions, focusing on thyroid cancer, Graves’ disease, and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis.

Trials To Prevent The Transmission And Complications Of Sexually Transmitted Infections, Including HIV

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $306,123.00
    Summary
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are important causes of illness in some sectors of the community. Even though they can be effectively prevented and treated, many health services do not give them priority. This research project will study ways in which general practitioners can better diagnose and treat STIs. We will carry out trials that compare new approaches to supporting doctors in this area, that involve a mixture of training, reminders and technical support as needed.

Evaluating Coronary Stents Using High-resolution Optical Coherence Tomography Imaging In Patients With Coronary Artery Disease

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $217,274.00
    Summary
A stent is a device made of metal that is placed inside an artery to prop it. Recently, the applicant introduced into Australia a novel technology to examine these stents once inside the body. This information may help make stents safer for patients

Improving The Genetic Diagnosis Of Neuromuscular Disorders

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $338,836.00
    Summary
Neuromuscular disorders involve progressive muscle weakness where currently there are no effective specific treatments, and only a diagnostic rate of ~60%; thus emphasising the great need for research into gene discovery and disease mechanisms. The use of genomics technologies can increase the diagnosis rate but challenges still remain. This project aims to address these challenges by developing tools and workflows to improve the diagnostic rate of neuromuscular diseases.

    Osteoporosis In Haemoglobinopathies

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $189,384.00
    Summary
Thalassaemia is the most common blood disorder worldwide. In severe cases, life-long blood transfusions are needed to survive but complications including iron overload and bone disease can occur. Deferasirox, a drug used to treat iron overload has been linked to kidney stones and bone loss in these patients through increased loss of calcium in the urine. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether bone loss can be reversed by using a diuretic or an alternative iron chelator.
