Australian Population Research Network: Cross-Disciplinary Collaborations in Research on Australia's Population Transformations and Their Social, Economic and Environmental Implications. The wellbeing and sustainability of Australia's population are national priority issues. The primary outcome of the Initiative will be a plan for a Network that will promote collaboration among researchers across universities and disciplines whose work focuses on the following issues relating to Australia's pop ....Australian Population Research Network: Cross-Disciplinary Collaborations in Research on Australia's Population Transformations and Their Social, Economic and Environmental Implications. The wellbeing and sustainability of Australia's population are national priority issues. The primary outcome of the Initiative will be a plan for a Network that will promote collaboration among researchers across universities and disciplines whose work focuses on the following issues relating to Australia's population: family and work; health and longevity; immigration and identity; and environment and settlement. Linkages will be established with Commonwealth and State/Territory governments to better communicate the results of population research for policy development, and with researchers internationally to facilitate comparative work that is crucial to further theoretical and methodological development in the population field.Read moreRead less
Assessing absolute sustainability of global cities. The project aims to create a quantitative modelling framework for assessing the absolute sustainability of cities by combining global multi-region input-output analysis with the 'safe and just space' concept for human development. Investigating public support for climate aid in Australia and abroad. This project aims to investigate public attitudes towards policies that provide aid to those affected by climate change, including resettlement for those displaced. It aims to do so using a series of innovative approaches, including large-scale international surveys and novel experiments. Expected outcomes of this project include new knowledge about the degree of public support for these climate policies and the psychological ....Investigating public support for climate aid in Australia and abroad. This project aims to investigate public attitudes towards policies that provide aid to those affected by climate change, including resettlement for those displaced. It aims to do so using a series of innovative approaches, including large-scale international surveys and novel experiments. Expected outcomes of this project include new knowledge about the degree of public support for these climate policies and the psychological predictors of public acceptability of climate aid and climate migration. This should provide significant benefits, such as by building Australia’s capacity for effective social and policy responses to climate change, and helping Australia plan for the repercussions of environmental change on social cohesion. The dilemma is how to protect shallow groundwater reserves without alienating traditional landowners and without generating costly conflicts. The problem is complex and involves the interaction of hydrologic and technical factors with socio-cultural, economic, policy and institutional factors. Understanding and preventing workforce vulnerabilities in midlife and beyond. This project brings together frontline service agencies with researchers from two universities to study involuntary non-participation and under-participation in the labour market by midlife Australians. Quantitative and qualitative approaches will be used to understand pathways and outcomes so as to inform policy and practice responses.
