Transforming the early modern archive: the Emmerson Collection at SLV. In 2015, State Library Victoria (SLV) received the bequest of the Emmerson Collection: a national treasure of over 5000 early modern rare books and manuscripts, the first and only early modern archive of scale to be held by an Australian institution. Dorothy Hewett: A literary biography. This project will produce the first biography of the major Australian playwright, novelist and poet Dorothy Hewett. Employing archival records and new oral histories against and alongside Hewett's own literary construction of her life, in many genres, this project combines literary and historical biography in an innovative approach to recreating her life and career. Making New Readers: The Australasian Book Society and the Cold War. This project aims to produce the first full history of one of the boldest ventures in Australian publishing. The Australasian Book Society sought to develop new readers and writers in mid-century Cold War Australia. Using a rich web of archival sources, this project shows whether and how the Society met those ambitious aims. New knowledge about the unique business model of a grassroots nationalist publisher will lead to deeper u ....Making New Readers: The Australasian Book Society and the Cold War. The project will generate new knowledge by workshopping select archival Noongar language, story and song material with its home community so as to enable an Indigenous-led articulation of identity and belonging.

Our world's linguistic and cultural heritage, the product of human evolution, is being lost rapidly due to globalisation and modernisation. This project will record the linguistic diversity of the Tangsa people of North East India, thereby increasing our knowledge of an important regional neighbour and of our human society and history.

Developing narratives from language and stories indigenous to the south coast of Western Australia. Over time linguists have collected Indigenous language narratives. This research project involves returning these narratives to the descendants of the people who first created human society in their part of the world. It will investigate the extent to which an Indigenous language and its stories, can inform contemporary writing in English about Australian identity.
