The provision of education to migrants and refugees: a longitudinal study of newly arrived students' experiences of education in Australia. This project will investigate the education provided to primary school aged newly-arrived students from non-English speaking backgrounds. The outcomes will help ensure that these students do not 'drop out' of school early, that their experiences of education in Australia are positive, and that their chances of securing employment are maximised.

Resilience, culture, and class: A sociological study of Australian students. This project aims to promote academic resilience and school success in contexts of adverse conditions. Using interviews, Social Network Analysis, and psychometric measures, the project will explore links between academic resilience, culture, and class. The project is designed to provide insights that can reduce educational failure and enhance life prospects of at-risk students. The youths’ successful emergence as fully participating Australian citizens is desirable both for society and for the individuals concerned as it directly affects their permanent cultural, social and economic contribution to the nation at large.
