Families, Law and Social Policy Research Network. The Federal Government's Family Law Pathways Advisory Group recommended that a national research agenda be developed for family law and social policy that focuses on the separation and divorce transition. For many families Commonwealth private family law and the public law of child protection and domestic violence, provides the setting in which this transition takes place. Small mercies, big futures: enhancing law, policy and practice in the selection, protection and settlement of refugee children and youth. This project will assist refugee youth and children who ultimately become Australian citizens or permanent residents. In so doing, it will help to maximise the social benefits that flow from immigration. The project will also help to reduce the risk of social dysfunction that flows from damage sustained in childhood. Between social enterprise and social movement: responses to environmental change at the intersection of rights and regulation. This socio-legal project will illuminate the diverse ways in which formal law blocks or encourages the efforts of ordinary citizens to respond to the challenges of reducing our carbon footprint. It will significantly develop the foundations for designing effective governance structures to support ethically-motivated citizen initiatives.
Mitigating tax barriers to trade and investment relations between Australia and the People’s Republic of China. China and Australia's conflicting tax rules and attitudes towards tax administration affect the level of trade, investment and labour mobility between the two countries. This project will explore and propose methods of reform for both the Chinese and Australian tax systems to strengthen our economic relationship.

Although increasing in number, children traveling on their own to seek protection abroad have received scant scholarly attention. No systematic research exists on the efficacy of asylum as a mechanism for protecting separated children smuggled or trafficked into Australia. This project provides the first comprehensive assessment of: the methods by which civil society actors seek to intervene in international criminal tribunals and the influence of such interventions on legal outcomes; the extent to which such interventions are consistent with the right of the defence to a fair trial; the growing reliance of courts on the amicus brief, and its implications for the defence; and, whether such interventions reflect the range of civil society interests in international criminal justice, or are limited to 'Western' perspectives.Read moreRead less

These have profound implications for the theory and practice of corporate governance and financial regulation. This project will map and evaluate the interaction of rules, principles and social norms to create accountable governance mechanisms.

This project aims to discover the extent to which children and young people are involved in decision-making about residence and contact when their parents divorce, and to examine how their views are taken into account. It will involve interviews with children and parents about agreements reached without court involvement, and interviews with children, parents, counsellors, separate representatives and judges in cases with court involvement.
