Mediated Trust: Ideas, Interests, Institutions, Futures. Declining trust in social and political institutions is linked to the rise of populism, misinformation and civic disengagement. Acknowledging the key role of digital media in enabling trust or promoting mistrust, this project explores mediated trust at societal, institutional and interpersonal levels. Acknowledging the key role of digital media in enabling trust or promoting mistrust, this project explores mediated trust at societal, institutional and interpersonal levels. The research will leverage a novel framework of 'ideas, interests and institutions' applied to major case studies from news media, digital platforms, corporations and the WHO; and develops innovative methods for analysing the relationship between communications and trust. The CMOS Quantum Processor: A path to scalable quantum computing. The project aims to develop a quantum computer processor based on a new technology developed by Professor Dzurak in 2014-15. Remarkably, the qubits, or processing elements, utilise the silicon metal-oxide semiconductor field-effect transistors that constitute today’s microprocessor chips, so existing production plants can be used to fast-track development. Summary
Nonlinear optical phononics: harnessing sound and light in nonlinear nanoscale circuits. This project will open a new field of physics by building the first integration platform in which light and sound interact in nonlinear nanoscale circuits. This interaction will be harnessed for new signal processing applications, leading to dramatic improvements in microwave technologies for radar, communications and sensing at the nanoscale.
