The research will investigate current and potential future roles of diasporas in both Australia and overseas in facilitating trade and investment. The study will examine their political, cultural and kinship ties with homelands and map the geography of seven diasporas in Australia. This will provide new data that describes the character, motivations and movements of diasporas in Australia. The primary outcome of the Initiative will be a plan for a Network that will promote collaboration among researchers across universities and disciplines whose work focuses on the following issues relating to Australia's pop ....Australian Population Research Network: Cross-Disciplinary Collaborations in Research on Australia's Population Transformations and Their Social, Economic and Environmental Implications. The wellbeing and sustainability of Australia's population are national priority issues. The primary outcome of the Initiative will be a plan for a Network that will promote collaboration among researchers across universities and disciplines whose work focuses on the following issues relating to Australia's population: family and work; health and longevity; immigration and identity; and environment and settlement. Young refugees account for about half of Australia’s humanitarian intake. They have enormous potential to enhance the nation but they face distinctive challenges to complete higher education or training and find employment. This study focuses on improving education and employment outcomes among refugee youth aged 15-24, in partnership with Australia’s leading refugee youth settlement agency. The youths’ successful emergence as fully participating Australian citizens is desirable both for society and for the individuals concerned as it directly affects their permanent cultural, social and economic contribution to the nation at large.
