2026 ARDC Annual Survey is now open!

The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure services including Reasearch Link Australia.

We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.

Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

Complete the 5 min survey now by clicking on the link below.

A Process-Based Framework for Open Innovation with Social Media Data. This project aims to improve the capacity of Australian businesses to derive value from social media data for innovation in an efficient manner, which is central to improving Australia’s global competitiveness. This will be achieved by developing an open innovation process-based framework for social media, which utilises advanced analytics to unlock the value of social media data and provides the analytics tools required at each stage of the innovation process. The resulting outputs will allow local businesses to transform social media data into actionable insights for each of the three stages of the open innovation process through machine learning and social network analysis algorithms.

Machine learning techniques for fuel loss detection at service stations. This project aims to develop effective techniques to identify the sources of fuel losses, such as leaks and calibration errors in underground storage tanks at service stations. Monitoring fuel losses at service stations is influenced by many external factors which can be difficult to predict. The project expects to use machine learning to develop the techniques and test them with live data at service stations. The expected outcomes are a set of tailor-made machine learning techniques for effective fuel loss detection and a software suite that can be easily incorporated into the normal operation of service stations. This should reduce the costs to the petroleum industry from wasteful leaks and the environmental damage caused by these leaks.

Open Standards design for improved road network information exchange. Open Standards design for improved road network information exchange. This project aims to design a draft digital open source performance-based construction contract specification for delivering road construction information to operational network asset management. This will be a common information exchange specification for all road agencies to standardise exchange of their assets data. Road network construction and maintenance costs $21 billion annually, but the outcome of this project is expected to save $65 to $130 million annually through data harmonisation. This project is at the leading edge of information management for roads and is expected to change several international standards.

An approach to preserving accounting and business archival materials: enhancing accessibility to inform research and practice. CPA Australia is one of the oldest professional accounting associations in the world. Its archival records provide invaluable insights into the development of the profession and the business community it services. The preservation and management of this heritage will be of benefit not just to the profession but also in enhancing our understanding of the evolution of the corporate foundation of the economy. This project will involve the development of a framework for managing the archive and facilitating access through the use of digital technologies. The outcomes will contribute to preserving and understanding the nation's business history as well as facilitating integration with international accounting and business archives.

Deep Pattern Mining for Dynamic Real-time Enterprise Scale Pricing. This project aims to build a pricing framework, based on deep pattern mining, to enable dynamic real-time pricing for large enterprises. It aims to advance existing business intelligence pricing models from policy driven to achieve deep pattern driven real-time pricing. The deep pattern mining addresses critical and under-developed knowledge discovery and data mining issues. Detailed research topics include a probabilistic data model, an extracted deep feature representation, a deep pattern mining algorithm, and a prototype system for pricing determination. The project outcomes aim to empower enterprises with real-time dynamic pricing capability, as well as building theoretical foundations to strengthen world leadership by Australian businesses.

Mining complex concurrency relationship patterns for dynamic customer/asset interaction modelling through novel industrial behaviour networks . This project will develop novel data mining algorithms to model the evolution of concurrency relationships between customers and assets. It will take into account multiple aspect factors for a business such as seasonality, government policy, and other external events, for making fast, accurate, and efficient business decisions.

Given the increasingly large costs of identity crimes in Australia, developing improved electronic identity verification techniques is highly significant in reducing losses from such crimes, making the Australian economy more competitive, and increasing consumer confidence in Australian financial institutions. Veda Advantage is widely used for identity verification by Australian financial service providers, so the benefits of the techniques developed in this project will automatically flow through to the Australian community. These techniques will be sufficiently generic to be of use for real-time identity verification in a broad range of applications, including e-Government portals, electronic banking, online stores, or national security systems.
