The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your
interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take
approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure
services including Reasearch Link Australia.
We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we
deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research
Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.
Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

Real-time plant discrimination and weed detection platform. The aim of this project is to develop an advanced, robust, commercially ready, laser-based green-from-green plant discrimination and weed detection sensor, capable of identifying different plants and weeds in the field, and allowing precise herbicide spraying of targeted weeds all in the same pass. The aim of this project is to develop an advanced, robust, commercially ready, laser-based green-from-green plant discrimination and weed detection sensor, capable of identifying different plants and weeds in the field, and allowing precise herbicide spraying of targeted weeds all in the same pass. Through the incorporation of novel multi-band sensors and the development of adaptable, configurable lasers, this first-of-its-kind system intends to see a dramatic improvement over current approaches to weed targeting. The outcome of the project aims to achieve optimised weed control, resulting in increased crop yields, reduced environmental impacts, decreased risk of herbicide resistance and substantial cost-savings.Read moreRead less

This project aims to develop new theoretical tools for the control and design of low-carbon water pumping systems powered by renewable energy. One expected outcome is to establish advanced control frameworks that significantly reduce operational cost for water pumping systems and meanwhile produce the least carbon emissions. The control frameworks will integrate stochastic uncertainties of solar cloud cover, electricity price and water demand. The control frameworks will be incorporated into a two-stage constrained optimisation as a codesign strategy for future low-carbon water pumping systems. This project will gain significant economic, commercial and environmental benefits to the Australian community.Read moreRead less

One particular application that will be investigated is leak detection in irrigation channels. As agriculture accounts for about 80% of Australia's water usage, the timely detection of leaks means that corrective actions can be taken early which will lead to large water savings and significant environmental benefits. The developed methods can be designed with any false alarm rate. This is important since frequent false alarms lead to wasted resources and operators will stop using the system. The technology once developed can be transferred to many other application areas such as urban water supplies, pipelines for oil and gas, and the process and manufacturing industries.Read moreRead less

Approximately, 30 to 40 billion liters of oils are in use in transformers worldwide. The development of this liquid requires selection of suitable vegetable oil base;thermal and oxidation stabilization; electrical performance, biodegradability, and endurance testings, viscosity and pour point improvements, compatibility tests with existing oils, and characterization of its gassing phenomena. The development of this new liquid from local oil seeds will provide the Australian industry huge export potentials. The prject will also provide Australian farmers a new avenue for their oilseed market.Read moreRead less

Aerial robots contacting objects in dynamic environments. This project will allow small unmanned aerial vehicles to touch objects to perform tasks and to fly confidently in complex and cluttered environments where contact with surroundings is inevitable. This will enable robots to perform critical tasks such as servicing power lines, bridges and other elevated infrastructure.
Beamforming with acoustic vector sensors for audio user interfaces. We aim to create new Audio User Interfaces (AUIs) for the automatic separation and annotation of audio from complex sound scenes using acoustic vector sensor beamforming technology. Specifically, we will develop: speech AUIs for noisy, multi-talker, reverberant environments; and sound transcription AUIs for the deaf. Ultimately, users will be able to walk into a room, hold conversations and leave with a searchable, automatically ....Beamforming with acoustic vector sensors for audio user interfaces. Specifically, we will develop: speech AUIs for noisy, multi-talker, reverberant environments; and sound transcription AUIs for the deaf. Ultimately, users will be able to walk into a room, hold conversations and leave with a searchable, automatically-generated transcript of the audio events, tagged with metadata. The application of these technologies will create new possibilities for recording audio in the music, radio, TV industries, and future home based audio communication systems.Read moreRead less
