2026 ARDC Annual Survey is now open!

The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure services including Reasearch Link Australia.

We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.

Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

Whole-of-population Linked Data: Strengthening The Evidence To Drive Improvement In Health And Health Care In Australia

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $1,130,376.00
    Summary
In partnership with the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Australian Institute of Health and Welfare and Heart Foundation, we will create a whole-of-population linked data platform to inform improvements in health and heath care. We will investigate: socioeconomic variation in disease burden, to identify opportunities to improve population health; preventive cardiovascular disease (CVD) care, to improve treatment; and end-of-life care trajectories, focusing on CVD, to inform improvements in care.

The Extended Australian Workplace Exposures Study - AWES2

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $541,293.00
    Summary
Work-related asthma and cancer are largely preventable conditions, but we need to understand the risks faced by workers in order to direct prevention policy and practice. We will survey 5000 Australian workers to estimate the exposure to asthma- and cancer-causing agents in the workplace. This partnership between university researchers and government and non-government organisations will provide a sound basis for determining how to decrease the number of these occupational diseases.

Delivering Effective Dental Healthcare In 2020-2030: A National Longitudinal Partnership Study Of Burden Of Oral Diseases In Australia

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $1,056,522.00
    Summary
The proposed partnership project will focus on five main areas: 1. The evaluation of changes in oral diseases. 2. The assessment of the incidence of oral diseases and its relationships with service systems and individual healthcare behaviours. 3. The estimation of the burden of oral diseases in the period 2020–30. 4. The assessment of cost-effectiveness of the various patterns of dental service use. 5. The knowledge translation involving policymakers and dental service providers.

Improving Decision Making On Health Interventions: Factoring In The Long Term Economic Impacts Of Informal (unpaid) Care

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $628,963.00
    Summary
This project looks at the future health of the Australian population that will keep more informal carers out of employment and diminish their own livings standards, thereby reducing funds available to government and the impact of interventions that could improve the health of the population and increase employment of carers.

‘Caring For The Carer’: Implementing A Comprehensive Support Service Model For Family Caregivers Looking After Persons With Age-related Macular Degeneration

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $218,830.00
    Summary
Blindness related to late age-related macular degeneration impacts not only the patient but also their family carers, placing them at risk of poor health outcomes. Together with our partners (Macular Disease Foundation Australia; Carers NSW), we will implement and evaluate a comprehensive support service that aims to help family caregivers by enhancing their psychosocial skills, so that they can manage their stress more effectively and better cope with the challenges associated with caregiving.

Health And Fertility Of Young Men Conceived Using Intra-cytoplasmic Sperm Injection

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $362,570.00
    Summary
The injection of a single sperm into the egg (ICSI) has been the main IVF treatment for men with poor sperm quality since 1993 but is now often used for other types of infertility. Concern has been raised about the health of the children. We will approach >800 parents and their adult sons conceived using ICSI and will assess his general health and development, and fertility. This work will improve patient counselling and practice guidelines, and direct research into the safety of ICSI.

Models And Quality Of Genetic Health Services For Aboriginal And Torres Strait Islander People

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $351,240.00
    Summary
Genetic health services are playing an increasingly important role in improving human health. Aboriginal people are underrepresented in such services despite a higher prevalence of a number of genetically determined conditions and evidence of willingness to access these services. Our grant will inform the development of effective models of genetic health service provision for Aboriginal people. This will improve health equity both now and in the future.

Preconception Carrier Screening: Providing Genetically At Risk Families With A Chance To Have Healthy Children

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $857,443.00
    Summary
Current preconception carrier screening is not widely accessible and has no public funding. We will develop a model of the social and economic impacts of genetic disorders on families and government and the cost of a range of genomic technologies to determine the social and economic benefits that could be realised by the introduction of accessible and affordable preconception carrier screening using existing technologies: gene panels and advances in whole genome sequencing (WGS).

Prevention And Treatment Of Viral Hepatitis Amongst Prisoners

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $1,102,510.00
    Summary
Hepatitis B and C infection rates remain very high in some Australian populations, notably prisoners. As this group cycles frequently back to the general community, prevention of transmission is critical. Antiviral treatment uptake remains very low in Australia, yet the prison environment offers a unique opportunity to address this. This project aims to assess effectiveness of existing prevention strategies, guide new control measures, and to evaluate a novel nurse-led model for treatment.

Targeting At Risk Relatives Of Glaucoma Patients For Early Diagnosis And Treatment (TARRGET)

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $595,375.00
    Summary
Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness in Australia but early detection and treatment can prevent blindness. We will recruit patients with advanced glaucoma from an Australia wide registry and refer their close relatives to have an eye exam and genetic testing to see if they are at risk of glaucoma. We will evaluate how a coordinator can improve the uptake of this screening program referring people to local eye care providers and in rural WA providing screening in 16 remote locations.
