A 10 Gbit/s Fibre Optic link to the Mt Pleasant and Mt Canopus Observatories. A 10 gigabit per second fibre optic link to the Mt Pleasant and Mt Canopus observatories will enable a wide range of new and exciting research opportunities. Very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) allows imaging of distant astronomical objects with much higher resolution than any other technique. The proposed fibre optic link will revolutionise Australia's VLBI capability, giving it the world's most sensitive array, ....A 10 Gbit/s Fibre Optic link to the Mt Pleasant and Mt Canopus Observatories. Ring constructions and algorithms for enhancing performance of BCH codes. BCH codes form a major class of codes used in modern communication systems. The aim of this project is to enhance the efficiency of this class of codes by combining them in constructions enabling correction of deletion and insertion errors, and develop efficient implementations of encoding and decoding algorithms incorporating soft decision methods for enhanced error correction. This project will examine the challenge whereby port operators are both encouraged to take risks to innovate but are constrained by the consequences of risk.

The project will enact and film the world’s first truly global citizens’ deliberation, a global citizens’ assembly (GCA) on genome editing, and proceed to analyse the impact of the ‘deliberative documentary’ film on public understanding of complex, fast-evolving science and technology. It will investigate the cross-cultural capacity of citizens to deliberate complex value-laden issues, and so ascertain prospects for an informed g ....Global Citizen Deliberation: Analysing a Deliberative Documentary. It will investigate the cross-cultural capacity of citizens to deliberate complex value-laden issues, and so ascertain prospects for an informed global public response to challenges posed by genome editing. Research will test the effects of the deliberative documentary on viewers, examining benefits of communicating complex issues via the work of the GCA. Other benefits include improving public trust in governance and advancing the Australian film industry.
