2026 ARDC Annual Survey is now open!

The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure services including Reasearch Link Australia.

We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.

Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

Team Approach To Polypharmacy Evaluation And Reduction For General Practice Patients With Dementia: The Australian TAPERdem Study.

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $586,840.00
    Summary
Dementia frequently coexists with other chronic conditions, posing a challenge to optimise medication use. Suboptimal pharmacological management of comorbidities exacerbates the rate of functional decline of PWD. The present study will determine to what extent improved medication management produces better health and functional outcomes for PWD.

Pharmacological Targeting Approach For Novel Anti-Cancer Chemotherapeutics Implementing Innovative Albumin-Containing Nanoparticles

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $314,644.00
    Summary
New drugs for cancer therapy that overcome resistance to standard chemotherapeutics and stop the spread of cancer are essential to develop. My preliminary studies discovered a strategy to increase the activity and delivery of our novel compounds to enhance the killing of cancer cells. I will design innovative agents in an effort to provide more effective therapeutics with fewer side effects to reduce the pain of cancer patients undertaking chemotherapy who are in the battle of their lives.

    Funding Amount
    $706,552.00
    Summary
Novel pharmacological agents to target stroke-induced brain injury. There is a looming stroke epidemic in Australia. 72% of Australian stroke sufferers are over the age of 65 and whereas in 1997 only 12% of Australians were in that age group, by 2030 that number will have increased to 23%. There is an urgent need for novel therapies. This project will aid the development of a novel anti-stroke therapy.

Developing A Framework To Evaluate Low Value Prescribing In The Australian Health Care Setting

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $124,608.00
    Summary
The aim of this project is to develop a framework to evaluate the quality of prescribing in Australia using routinely collected administrative health data. Given growing concerns regarding the quality of prescribing of psychotropic medicines and opioids, these medicines will be e focus of the study. Patterns, quality markers and health and financial consequences of poor prescribing will be assessed.

Can Pharmacotherapy Prevent Alcohol Driven Suicides?

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $318,768.00
    Summary
In Australia, suicide is the leading cause of death for young people and the 5th highest for people in their middle age. Harmful use of alcohol can be attributed to around a third of suicides, and there is evidence that alcohol related suicides represent a clinically distinct type of suicide. This research aims to identify medications that have the potential prevent alcohol related suicides by targeting behaviours associated with alcohol use.

Improved Risk Assessment For Drugs Causing Cardiac Arrhythmias

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $638,166.00
    Summary
Fatal heart rhythm disturbances are an all too common side effect of many drugs. Tests that are in place to guard against this are effective, but widely considered too stringent, meaning the development of potentially useful new therapeutics has been hampered. This study will characterise the precise mechanisms by which drugs cause arrhythmias and identify specific patterns on patient ECGs associated with the risk of rhythm disturbances that can be used in more effective clinical testing.

Development And Implementation Of Evidence-based Deprescribing Guidelines To Guide Person-centred Care For People With Dementia

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $623,363.00
    Summary
Optimising medication use in people with dementia will include both initiation of necessary medications and withdrawal of unnecessary and harmful medications. Many guidelines exist to aid doctors when prescribing medication, however, no guidelines currently exist that detail when, or how to withdraw medications. Development and implementation of such guidelines into practice may lead to improved quality of life of people with dementia and their carers.

Polypharmacy In Elderly Australians - Can Deprescribing Improve Health Related Outcomes And Reduce Costs?

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $344,644.00
    Summary
Medications are often inappropriately prescribed in elderly Australians. This research investigates whether reducing certain classes of medications results in improved patient outcomes, and what the cost implications are of inappropriately prescribed medications and the costs of a service which reduces drug useage.
