Innovative Solutions for Wool Garment Comfort through Design. This project will investigate how innovation in garment design can add value to the Australian wool clip and be a driver for new industrial development and product innovation. The project is relevant to stakeholders in rural communities as it will show the potential of new distributed technologies for resource-based industries and enable the wool industry to deliver increases in national wealth while minimising environmental impacts. .... As the project will provide examples of design-led innovation for a traditional Australian product, the links made between wool and garment innovation will encourage a broader consumer understanding of Australian cultural identity.

Improving Stroke Outcomes: Attenuating Progression And Recurrence

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $9,331,996.00
    Summary
Stroke is the second most common cause of death and major cause disability. There are few proven interventions, so we need to introduce new ones. We developed a bench to bedside program to introduce new stroke therapies and its early secondary prevention. Our general goal is to provide evidence for their effectiveness and safety. We will use animal stroke models, markers in the blood to help diagnose and predict stroke outcome and imaging to help select patients for several clinical trials.

The project will contribute to the goal of promoting innovation in three areas. First, the project will amplify Australia's individual strengths in biological art and digital architecture by creating a network of artists and designers in which each discipline is stimulated by the concerns and practices of the other. Second, the project will explain innovation in such networks, by identifying activities that lead to innovation. Such an explanation will improve the nation's capacity to promote innovation in targeted fields. Third, the project will test and develop collaboration tools designed to support the activities identified as leading to innovation, as information technology is a primary enabler for operating across such networks.

Leaders are seen as exemplifying and guiding the climate of police organisations. This project will deliver comprehensive, comparative, and internationally relevant empirical data on the relationship between leaders' approach and behaviours and the achievement of outcomes in these significant, high profile public sector organisations. On this foundation the project will make recommendations on innovative institutional design to achieve ethical, effective and efficient policing capable of withstanding the challenges of the future. This will increase public confidence in policing, resulting in safer communities and improved crime control. This proposal contributes to the ARC research priority of Safeguarding Australia.

International Operations and the Australian Federal Police: Devising a legal framework. As a major player in the maintenance of regional peace and security, Australia is increasingly using Australian Federation Police (AFP) in a range of international operations. The extent of deployments and the expectations both governments and communities place on these operations is unprecedented. This project, in collaboration with the AFP, will draw upon recent experiences to provide a clear legal framework, advancing the capacity for AFP deployments to maintain their high commitment to the rule of law. The project is of international significance and will consolidate Australia's reputation as innovative and influential in the planning, management and conduct of police in international operations.

An innovative two-phase anaerobic process for biogas production from green waste and animal droppings for remote communities. Australia's remote communities, including agricultural and Indigenous communities, are an important part of Australian society and a significant contributor to the Australian economy, yet their access to cheap, secure, reliable and clean energy remains a significant challenge. Building on recent scientific advancement in anaerobic digestion, this project will develop a new technology for biogas production using locally available resources such as green waste and animal droppings. The outcome of this project will provide clean energy services to regional communities while minimising greenhouse gas emissions associated with waste disposal and thus contribute to the development of an environmentally sustainable Australia.
