Summary
High quality, evidence-based guidelines for preventive activities and for the implementation of prevention in general practice have been developed by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and other bodies, yet available information suggests that many patients miss out on evidence-based preventive care. This project aims to evaluate current practice and develop a model of practice aimed at improving the implementation of preventive guidelines in general practice.
Implementing Falls Prevention Research Into Policy And Practice

Summary
This project represents a partnership between key Australian falls prevention researchers, policy makers and technology companies and aims to a) fill gaps in evidence relating to the prevention of falls in older people, b) translate evidence into policy and practice so that health resources can be allocated most efficiently, and c) disseminate evidence to health professionals working with older people, to improve the workforce capacity to prevent falls and associated injuries in the future.
Blood transfusion is a vital part of medical practice. Patients expect that this treatment will be given only where it will help them, while the community expects that the money spent on transfusion is being spent wisely. The proposed program of work addresses critical deficits in understanding in transfusion medicine. Improving the poor outcomes in Australian cancer patients living in rural and remote areas is a national priority, but there is as yet insufficient evidence on how the problem is best tackled.
