Public acceptability of infrastructure such as desalination plants or new public spaces, is a concern for the Australian Commonwealth and State Governments. However, tensions exist between the need for expedient planning and development of critical public infrastructure and Australian principles of democratic social and economic participation. The instrument developed by this research will inform public policy to negotiate and understand arrangements that balance social participation with Government objectives.

The infrastructure will support and complement existing areas of specialisation at the three collaborating Victorian schools of architecture including research in urban modelling and simulation, building management and life-cycle simulations, spatial decision-making, automated data capture and modelling of complex building geometries for heritage applications. The broader aim of this network infrastructure is to provide a network of information sharing that will be useful to the built environment professional decision-makers including architects, planners, environmental scientists, geographers, and emergency planners, all of whom we trust will ultimately subscribe to the network once it is established.

Peer-to-Peer collaborative research network for sharing and managing digital legal information. The aim of this project is to develop a collaborative research network using P2P technology to allow research across multiple disciplines for an open exchange of information. Current P2P technology only supports general information sharing. This research will investigate how to use P2P technology to incorporate digital rights management and network authentication, and to facilitate existing open access initiatives, traditional scholarly publishing models and emerging research practices. The collaborations between IT and legal industry will be established and expanded significantly in the scope of e-research for sharing legal resources. A P2P prototype will be developed to facilitate legal users and applications.
