New insulins for the improved management of diabetes. The prevalence of diabetes has increased dramatically over the past few decades and now this condition is widely considered the world’s fastest growing disease. New insulins with improved pharmacological and storage properties are desperately needed, and this project will work on chemical synthesis enabling designer insulins to be prepared for improved management of diabetes.

Summary
People fear getting painful knee osteoarthritis (OA) more than any other disease – it is seen as progressive and incurable. It often stops people from moving and staying healthy, resulting in an enormous burden on sufferers and the health care system. This program of research aims to understand what brain & nervous system processes might underlie these pain and movement problems and whether new brain-targeting treatment helps. This will allow us to better match treatment to what patients need.
Laser Diagnostics of Soot Formation in Precessing Jet Flames. In many practical combustion systems (e.g., boiler furnaces and rotary kilns), flame radiation is the major contributor to the required heat transfer. Soot formation is a means of enhancing flame radiation provided the soot is completely oxidised within the flame so that there are no soot emissions.
