As Australia is the first and only country to implement a free universal school based male human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination program (in 2013), this project has the unique opportunity to be first to study to assess the effectiveness of the male HPV vaccination program in Australia by measuring a change in the prevalence of HPV among young (aged 17-20) heterosexual and homosexual men following the implementation of the vaccination program.

Trade policy is often developed without consideration of its effects on health. The Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) and New Zealand are key trading partners of Australia. Thus the ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (AANZFTA) was established in 2009. This project aims to analyse the effect of the agricultural trade component of the AANZFTA on food consumption patterns, malnutrition, obesity and chronic disease in Thailand and Australia.

This research program will examine whether environment and behaviour work together on asthma for Australian children. Calculation on satellite-derived data will establish updated knowledge base for assessing childhood asthma in relation to residential green spaces and local climate. Significance of the research lies in the high prevalence of asthma in Australian children. Findings will help health workers allocate resources for preventing asthma attacks and provide evidence for urban planning.

Sonic drilling to provide contamination-free core sampling of rock and unconsolidated sediment. Australia is the world's driest inhabited continent. Understanding environmental and climatic changes, from the temperate period when humans arrived about 50,000 years ago to the present state of widespread aridity, is crucial for modelling future climate change. This facility will provide new generation drilling equipment which is necessary to obtain accurate records.

A Land Fit for Heroes. A Social, Cultural and Environmental History of Soldier Settlement in New South Wales, 1916-1939. The digger has an iconographic status in Australian society; thousands of families have charted the service records of relatives who served in the first AIF. This project will recover the returned soldier as important an historical entity as the men (and women) who went to war.
