This project will increase Australian understanding of China's transformation from a rural, agricultural nation into an urban industrialized one. It will also build a collaboration between the Australian National University and the Shandong Academy of Social Sciences, which will facilitate the ability of Australian postgraduate students to undertake field research in China.
Fostering pro-environment consciousness and practice: environmentalism, environmentality and environmental education in Indonesia. This project aims to foster environmental awareness in Indonesia by investigating how some people have become environmentally aware, and by evaluating various environmental education and activism projects. This project will also identify types of education that have proven effective, analyse the reasons for their efficacy and make recommendations accordingly.

This project aims to investigate the emergence of a political movement promoting Hong Kong nationalism, transforming a seemingly depoliticised trade port into one of the most politically charged cities in the world. The project will use an ethnographic approach of close engagement with activists and their experiences to build on macro-level analyses of Hong Kong’s relationship with China and generate new knowledge of the persona ....The newest nationalism: constructing a Hong Kong national identity.
