Liberalism, Youth, and the Practice of Politics in India. This project investigates the role of youth in India in challenging or defending notions of equality and freedom. The project will generate new knowledge on liberalism, youth, and political practice using an innovative approach to data collection termed project ethnography and deploying interdisciplinary methods. Expected outcomes of the project include enhanced capacity in Indian studies in Australia, new interdisciplinary collaborations ....Liberalism, Youth, and the Practice of Politics in India. This project aims to investigate the impact of new agricultural vocational training programs in rural India on processes of skill acquisition and youth livelihood trajectories. As India rapidly expands its capacity for formal skill development in agriculture, this study will be among the first to employ an innovative qualitative longitudinal research design to assess these programs’ ground-level impacts. Over 20 million people in developing countries depend on informal mining for their livelihoods, producing large amounts of mineral commodities. This project challenges the current paradigm on informal mining and aims to improve the livelihoods of these people while enhancing environmental sustainability.
Going for gold: safe livelihoods for informal gold miners in South and Southeast Asia. Informal gold mining by the rural poor is transforming contemporary rural Asian economies. This project will focus on the community level, and on mineral-rich tracts in South and Southeast Asia, to explore how the livelihoods of the rural poor are changing in response to high gold prices.
