Shaping Australia’s Aboriginal Health Services: Politics, power and people. This project aims to provide the first comprehensive Aboriginal-owned and -authored history of the national Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services network – comprised of 150 local primary health providers and recognised as critical to ‘closing the gap’ in Aboriginal disadvantage. The Caseys and Pat Jarrett in Washington, 1940-1942. This project aims to study the desirability of diplomatic interventions and practices to achieve ‘smart power’ results in an era where ‘hard power’ military intervention is often a disproportionately large, reflex response to global security threats. It will study Australian Minister Richard Gardiner 'Dick' Casey, his wife Maie Casey and their press aide Patricia 'Pat' Jarrett, who served in Washington during 1940-1 and, quietly encouraged by ....The Caseys and Pat Jarrett in Washington, 1940-1942. This project aims to study the desirability of diplomatic interventions and practices to achieve ‘smart power’ results in an era where ‘hard power’ military intervention is often a disproportionately large, reflex response to global security threats. It will study Australian Minister Richard Gardiner 'Dick' Casey, his wife Maie Casey and their press aide Patricia 'Pat' Jarrett, who served in Washington during 1940-1 and, quietly encouraged by the Roosevelt Administration, conducted a sustained campaign of private and public diplomacy to project an identity for Australia distinct from the then unpopular Britain with which it was usually conflated. The Origins and Effects of the Unified National System of Higher Education in Australia. The project will provide the first systematic and fully documented account of the genesis, aims, authorship, design, negotiation, carriage and implementation of the changes introduced to Australian higher education from 1987 to 1992. In addition, it will evaluate the immediate and long-term effects of these changes in reference to the purpose and rationale of the reforms as presented in the policy documents ....The Origins and Effects of the Unified National System of Higher Education in Australia. The project will provide the first systematic and fully documented account of the genesis, aims, authorship, design, negotiation, carriage and implementation of the changes introduced to Australian higher education from 1987 to 1992. Crawford, this project will examine transformations in Australian policy during the middle decades of the twentieth century. Crawford was a leading member of a generation of public servants who recast the practices of government, in this case through a particular focus on Australia's role in our region and among developing countries.
Assimilating Modernity: The Harmonisation of Liberal, Socialist and Conservative Thought in Modern China, 1921-1949. The project will enable Australian policy makers to understand the way in which Chinese intellectuals grappled with the issue of modernity and questions about liberalism, socialism and conservatism in the recent past. This is important because the Chinese elites are tackling similar issues today as they face the challenges of globalisation. This research will promote better understanding of the historical antecedents to contemporary Australian regional interventions, relations with our neighbours and conceptions of racial or ethnic differences. It thus directly addresses current debates on the politics of history. This project will contribute to awareness of the ethical foundations of the Western intellectual tradition, both philosophical and religious, through studying an influential encyclopaedia of ethical instruction from 1300, known as the Speculum morale and its relationship to the evolution of ethical teaching in France during the 13th century.
