The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your
interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take
approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure
services including Reasearch Link Australia.
We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we
deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research
Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.
Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

Dissecting insect gut function to understand insecticide detoxification. Massive quantities of chemical insecticides are used daily to control the insect pests that threaten agriculture, human health and the welfare of domestic pets. Insects readily evolve resistance to these chemicals reducing the effectiveness of pest control, increasing the amount of chemical used and increasing costs to consumers. Insects readily evolve resistance to these chemicals reducing the effectiveness of pest control, increasing the amount of chemical used and increasing costs to consumers. This project examines the way in which insects adapt to the extreme stress imposed on them by chemical insecticides. A thorough understanding of this adaptation process is required before insecticide resistance can be effectively managed or prevented. Read moreRead less
Investigation of endocrine disruption in Australian aquatic environments. Water is a vital resource. Water is a vital resource. The disposal of wastes is often associated with the release of contaminants like endocrine disruptors into the environment. These contaminants can impact the health of our waterways and lead to potential risks to fish populations and ultimately public health. The hazards resulting from endocrine disruptors have been well defined globally and to a lesser extent in Australia in the last decade, however we have very limited information about possible effects in Australian waterways or reservoirs. This research project will investigate the state of endocrine disruption in our waters. The knowledge gained will address this gap and provide a benefit to the national community, risk managers and importantly our waterways.Read moreRead less
Application of nano-sized zero valent iron particles to agrochemicals degradation through Fenton's reagent oxidation. Zero-valent iron (ZVI) has been successfully used for the degradation of a wide range of contaminant organics in groundwaters in recent years. The rates of degradation however are relatively slow and render the process unsuitable for situations where there are limits on the time available for reaction. Zero-valent iron (ZVI) has been successfully used for the degradation of a wide range of contaminant organics in groundwaters in recent years. The rates of degradation however are relatively slow and render the process unsuitable for situations where there are limits on the time available for reaction. An innovative approach is to couple the dissolution of ZVI with hydrogen peroxide addition thereby generating hydroxyl radicals as a result of Fenton's reagent reactions. The efficacy of using this innovative ZVI/H2O2 process to degrade herbicides and pesticides of concern to Australian agriculture is investigated at laboratory and field scale in this project.Read moreRead less
Functional and regulatory analysis of n-acetylcholine receptors, key targets of insecticides. Agriculture is one of Australia's mainstay industries and a major user of insecticides. Agriculture is one of Australia's mainstay industries and a major user of insecticides. However, current insecticides suffer a number of significant deficiencies, including collateral damage in the environment and insect resistance. One of the major targets for insecticides are a class of neuronal receptors, found in organisms ranging from worms to man. Our work will provide a detailed biological understanding of these receptors leading to better ways of developing new insecticides. Similar receptors in humans are the target for nicotine and associated with neurological disorders such as schizophrenia and autism. Thus our work will also increase our understanding of important human receptors associated with disease.Read moreRead less
Engineering of anti-platelet antibodies for the diagnosis and therapy of infants with bleeding disorders. Foeto-maternal alloimmune thrombocytopenia (FMAIT) is a serious clinical condition where infants suffer potentially fatal bleeding disorders from 14 weeks gestation to 1-2 weeks post delivery. The cause of the disease is through maternal antibodies destroying foetal platelets. Our aim is to produce human antibodies, which will be used as diagnostic agents to screen for the condition in pregnant women, and to further develop such antibodies for therapy. Identification of mothers at risk of FMAIT and the development of a specific therapy are vital to the management and prevention of this serious condition.Read moreRead less

Improving the efficiency of use of agricultural chemicals, through utilization of novel liquid crystalline carriers particles, will deliver significant environmental and economic benefits. Reduced overall usage and input of chemicals into the environment, together with lower water consumption in the treatment of crops will contribute to an Environmentally Sustainable Australia, with benefits in reduced salinity. More economical farming will also lead to flow on benefits to other businesses in rural communities. The project will also enhance Australia's reputation in the uptake of nanotechnologies, and in training of young scientists in the nanotechnology field.Read moreRead less

Plant proteoglycans are widely used in the Australian agrifood industry as emulsifiers and thickening agents. In plants, they have been implicated in critical roles such as embryogenesis, development and programmed cell death; processes that ultimately determine agricultural production. However studies into plant proteoglycans are limited by a lack of specific reagents to probe their cellular function. We propose to develop a series of monoclonal antibodies that can be used to study the structure and function of plant proteoglycans. These antibodies will have broad uses in basic and strategic research programs and will accelerate the commercial development of plant proteoglycans for use in the food industry.Read moreRead less
Enhanced efficiency fertilisers for agricultural sustainability and environmental quality. Expected benefits will come from reduced environmental impact and improved profitability of farming. These include: demonstrably reduced emissions of nitrogen gases (nitrous oxide (a greenhouse gas), nitric oxide (ozone active), and ammonia (a pollutant and secondary greenhouse gas); less nitrate leaching, soil acidification and nitrogen contamination of water resources; increased flexibility in timing and ....Enhanced efficiency fertilisers for agricultural sustainability and environmental quality. These outcomes will significantly improve and help protect the future financial and environmental conditions of rural Australia, and improve our national greenhouse account. Read moreRead less

This project aims to design surfactants for applications in agriculture and energy, and the science needed to understand and deploy them. New molecules have been designed based around the versatile betaine core, and their synthesis could allow a systematic understanding of the relationships between molecular architecture, effectiveness and self-assembly behaviour. This strategy will use molecules that can respond to light to understand why certain molecules tend to form valuable viscoelastic fluids. When used to form complex fluids with unique properties, these surfactants could be used as lubricants, dispersants and energy fluids for use as drilling lubricants, texture modifiers in personal care products, and dispersants in agrochemicals.Read moreRead less
A “Goldilocks” live attenuated poultry vaccine for Infectious Coryza. This project aims to develop a safe and effective vaccine for Infectious Coryza using a live-attenuated vaccine approach. This project aims to develop a safe and effective vaccine for Infectious Coryza using a live-attenuated vaccine approach. Infectious coryza is an acute respiratory disease of chickens and is caused by the bacterial pathogen, Avibacterium paragallinarum. Infectious Coryza can be controlled by appropriate biosecurity practises and this has been successful in the Australian context to date. However, in the USA, Europe and other equatorial regions, infectious Coryza remains an unsolved problem. The expected outcome of this project is a cross-serovar protective vaccine to prevent infectious coryza for use in endemic countries and to act as a biosecurity measure to protect Australia's poultry industry against an incursion of this disease.Read moreRead less
