Summary
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples experience high rates of dementia at younger ages of onset, having far reaching consequences for the person, their family and their communities. The OnTRACK (Teaching, Research and Community Knowledges) Centre for Research Excellence will generate knowledge about culturally safe approaches to optimise the well being and quality of life of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples at risk of or living with dementia.
Frailty Trans-Disciplinary Research To Achieve Healthy Ageing

Frailty may lead to a loss of independence which is more common with ageing but not inevitable. This centre of research excellence brings together a national team of clinician and academic researchers and forges strong links to three international centres of excellence in frailty research. Whilst providing new opportunities for the next generation of frailty clinicians and researchers, new research evidence to support the prevention and treatment of this hidden health issue will be developed.

The Productivity Commission has recently said that without evidence, policy makers must fall back on intuition, ideology or conventional wisdom. CIPHER will make an internationally leading contribution to understanding how governments can most easily find and use research evidence. We will test strategies designed to make findings from research more readily available, to increase policy makers skills in using research and to encourage research that is of more immediate use to policy agencies.
Breathe Well: A Centre For Research Excellence In Chronic Respiratory Diseases And Lung Ageing

Summary
Our CRE is based on common respiratory conditions covering wide spectrum of ages and severity. We will investigate how to maintain optimal respiratory health, through innovative approaches to early detection, improved therapy and adherence. We have a strong multi-disciplinary team of collaborators and we will build capacity through post-doctoral fellowships to improve our structural balance and optimise translational outputs. Tasmania is an ideal community to host a strong CCRE.
