Fall-related injuries are increasing in Australia. Our rapidly ageing population will lead to even greater numbers of injuries unless effective interventions are widely implemented. Australia has the highest reported rate of food allergy in the world. We aim to eradicate food allergy through improved prevention and cure, supported by evidence generated by our collaborative network of research. The control of epidemics requires cross-sectoral engagement across various fields such as health, government, international law and security, at both national and international levels. The changing global landscape poses an increased threat to biosecurity, calling for cross-sectoral collaborative research and engagement. Biostatistics is the scientific discipline that focusses on the methods used to design and analyse research studies on human health. This Centre will develop a critical mass of expertise in this under-resourced area around a program of methodological research, translation and training.
Reducing The Health, Social And Economic Burden Of Injecting Drug Use In Australia

Summary
Injecting drug use (IDU) is a disproportionately large source of health and social harm. This CRE unites Australia’s leading scientists in the IDU field – researchers working on blood-borne virus epidemiology and treatment, overdose prevention, justice health and psychiatric health - and experts from key non-government organisations. The CRE will develop new ways to improve the health of injecting drug users, and reduce the health and social burden of IDU to the Australian community.
The prevalence of food allergy (FA) has risen dramatically in the last 20 years. Strong evidence suggests that undetermined lifestyle factors are central to this modern phenomenon. We will develop a CRE in Paediatric FA and Food-related Immune Disorders, providing international leadership in public health initiatives to stem the tide of FA and related disorders. We are uniquely placed to provide evidence-based guidelines that will inform public health policy and clinical care of patients.

We propose a unique research portfolio that extends from the laboratory bench to the bedside and to population health and health services research.
