The June 2007 Report to Congress by the US Under Secretary of the Department of Defence (Acquisition, Technology and Logistics) estimated the cost of corrosion associated with US DoD systems to be between $10 billion and $20 billion annually. It further stated that the US DoD has focused its life-cycle corrosion research and development efforts on four primary areas one of which is repair processes that restore corroded materials to an acceptable level of structural integrity and functionality. This project specifically addresses that topic and as such will have a significant impact on Australia's Defence infrastructure.Read moreRead less

The project aims to develop an understanding of the engineering and physical principals that determines the performance of a class of scramjet operating at hypervelocity speeds (>3km/s). Novel and innovative ideas will be explored which for the first time will provide the understandings necessary to make well founded predictions of the cost effectiveness of this approach, as well as provide the blue print to develop an engine which can operate at Mach 10.Read moreRead less

The requested 3D scanning laser vibrometer is intended for the characterisation of 3D vibration of small and large, simple and complex structures, for the purpose of understanding the vibratory behaviour as a precursor to optimising noise and vibration control strategies. It has application to small items for which the use of contact sensors is impossible or impractical, as well as large structures for which the vibration fields can be complex and a 3D scanning capability is essential. Examples include micro-positioning actuators, piezo-electric motors, live cell response, disk brakes, aircraft and vehicles. Outcomes include the enhancement of existing research projects, allowing a greater understanding of the noise and vibration phenomena.Read moreRead less
