Increasing the delivery and access to these services in primary care will decrease unintended pregnancies and improve health outcomes for Australian women.

Summary
Cardiovascular diseases are the leading causes of premature death and disability worldwide. Effective treatments for prevention and control of these conditions are available however their use remains far from optimal, in Australia and globally. My current and proposed research will develop and evaluate highly innovative solutions to reduce large evidence-practice gaps in healthcare delivery. These include task shifting to non-physician health workers and novel approaches to drug delivery.

The wide variation in living kidney donation rates across Australia remains unexplained. This study will identify a range of barriers and reasons for the disparities in the rates of living donor kidney transplantation. National surveys will be administered to adults eligible for kidney transplantation, qualitative interviews will be conducted with potential transplant recipients and clinicians, and transplant centres will be surveyed.

The project will assess the accuracy, acceptability and relative cost effectiveness of general practice based diabetic retinopathy (DR) screening and monitoring, with ophthalmic support and education via videoconferencing. Accredited GPs will screen for DR using non-mydriatic cameras as part of the Diabetes Annual Cycle of Care and monitor patients with minimal to moderate levels of DR but no sight threatening signs, with virtual ophthalmology support. Very little is known about older Indigenous people in aged care. Led by Indigenous people, this project will use a unique national dataset to answer questions on the experiences of Indigenous people in aged care, focusing on access and barriers to services and care, quality and safety of care and whether the care they receive meets their health needs. This research will inform service improvements and ensure older Indigenous people are not forgotten in much-needed aged care reforms.
