2026 ARDC Annual Survey is now open!

The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure services including Reasearch Link Australia.

We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.

Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

Adult literacy and Aboriginal community well-being in western NSW. This project aims to examine the effect of an adult literacy campaign on Aboriginal communities in New South Wales. Since 2012, four western NSW Aboriginal communities have implemented a Cuban-designed mass campaign model to address very low levels of adult literacy. Over 100 people will have achieved basic literacy by July 2016, and four more communities will join by 2019. This project will use a social determinants of health framework to analyse quantitative and qualitative data collected at an individual and population level. This research is expected to improve understanding of the link between Aboriginal adult literacy and health.

Racism is associated with poor mental health among Indigenous youth (14-25 years). Previous research has examined overt forms of racism but overlooked subtle and covert forms. This project is designed to provide crucial new knowledge on the forms, impacts, and interpersonal context of covert racism among Indigenous youth. We will adapt, to an Indigenous youth context, an international model of microaggressions (brief, daily acts of covert racism) which focuses on the impacts of racism on targets and the roles of non-Indigenous peoples in either sustaining or ameliorating racism. Expected outcomes will be a new model of covert racism to inform future racism research and interventions in Australia and among other First Nations peoples.

This project aims to identify a range of modifiable factors that affect the participation of Indigenous adolescents in human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination school programs. The project expects to generate new knowledge by combining Indigenous methodologies and a socioecological model to explore policy, community, interpersonal and intrapersonal factors impacting HPV vaccination uptake for this population. Expected outcomes include a more comprehensive understanding of the factors behind the low rates of HPV vaccination among Indigenous adolescents. This information should provide significant benefits including the identification of modifiable factors to increase HPV vaccination rates for Indigenous adolescents.

This project aims to explore the significance of participation in sport and its links to education attainment and health and wellbeing outcomes. Recent research suggests that that there is a significant positive relationship between physical activity and cognitive functioning in children, and also a positive relationship between self-reported participation in sport and general health and wellbeing. However, there has been no research to date that examines sport, education, health and wellbeing in Indigenous communities. This study aims to address this lack. Project outcomes may inform polices and community programs targeting sport, educational attainment, and health and wellbeing outcomes among Indigenous youth in Australia. They may also contribute to frameworks for evaluating future programs.

Food sovereignty asserts the rights of people and communities to healthy and culturally appropriate foods through determination of their own food and agriculture systems. With food insecurity higher among Indigenous households; a food sovereignty approach offers the potential for sustainable long-term solutions that maintain human dignity and reinvigorate knowledge systems. Drawing on national and international perspectives and using Indigenous research methodologies, this project aims to co-design a food sovereignty model that will enable Indigenous communities to effectively address food insecurity according to their local contexts. Both the process and solutions will contribute to improvements in physical, mental and social wellbeing.

This project aims to examine the genetic variants introduced by Europeans (and other groups) into the genomes of the Aboriginal Australian population. The rate of metabolic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension is very high in Australia’s Indigenous populations. While an energy-rich Western diet has been suggested as the major cause, the contribution of genomic variants (mutations) remains unclear. Anticipated outcomes are better understandings of both the benign and deleterious variants introduced into Aboriginal Australian populations and how these contribute to disease susceptibility.
