Using law and ending domestic violence: Women's voices. Domestic violence severely damages communities across the globe and law is recognised as a key mechanism for prevention and redress. This project aims to undertake a longitudinal study examining how women of diverse backgrounds use law to help them live a life free of violence. Children from low socio-economic status (LSES) backgrounds are three times less likely to attend university than their high socio-economic status peers. For families without experience of higher education it is difficult to know how to encourage young children's aspiration for educational futures. A social marketing intervention targeting parents, children and early childhood educators will be developed and longitudinal interviews will be conducted to understand the development of aspirations by LSES families with young children. Administrative justice in China: harnessing the rule of law to deal with citizen complaints against official misconduct. Ongoing conflicts between citizens and government officials in China pose a serious threat to the country’s social stability. Dealing fairly and efficiently with citizens’ complaints of administrative misconduct is a core component of China’s commitment to good governance and the rule of law. Using a multimethod research design, this project aims to investigate the problem of school disengagement among African students from refugee backgrounds. By building new knowledge that can inform policy responses and school practices, this project contributes to improving educational attainment and integration outcomes of refugee students in Australia. Expected outcomes of the project include new insights on causes and manifestations of ....Improving School Engagement of African Refugee Students . Youth identity and educational change in Australia since 1950: digital archiving, re-using qualitative data and histories of the present. This is an historical and longitudinal study of Australian youth and education since the 1950s. It creates a digital archive of the study for future researchers and re-examines earlier qualitative studies to better understand generational changes in youth pathways and educational inequalities.
Parent and community relations in Australian schooling, 1940s-2010s: expertise and authority, reform and crisis. This project undertakes the first national history of parent-school-community relations in Australia. Examining public, Catholic and independent school sectors, it combines a cultural history of transformations in school parenting with a policy history of school-community engagement, over a period characterised by contestations between schools and parents about whose expertise and aut ....Parent and community relations in Australian schooling, 1940s-2010s: expertise and authority, reform and crisis. Trajectories and turning points for women's reproductive health. This project will take a whole life perspective to investigate women’s reproductive health. It uses data from more than 150,000 women in 10 cohort studies across six nations. Findings will advance our understanding of reproductive health and will support a more tailored approach to women’s health policy and strategies for healthy ageing.

Translational research in osteoarthritis: from epidemiological studies to clinical interventions. Currently the only treatment for osteoarthritis is to relieve pain. However, there are some factors that may affect the progression of this disease. This project will examine these factors including inflammation, metabolism, and physical inactivity, and find potential modifying therapies such as vitamin D supplementation for osteoarthritis.
Preventing child sexual abuse by understanding perpetrators’ motivations. This project aims to investigate, for the first time, the experiential motivations of child sexual abuse perpetrators. Using a novel theoretical and methodological approach, it expects to discover new knowledge about the motivations of child sexual abuse perpetrators. Expected outcomes include new theoretical explanations for child sexual abuse perpetration and transformed policy and practice measures to prevent and respon ....Preventing child sexual abuse by understanding perpetrators’ motivations.
