Linked semantic platforms for social and physical infrastructure and wellbeing. This project aims to develop the next generation of decision-support tools for interdisciplinary research on critical public policy issues. This project will use linked open data, knowledge graphs and collaborations across existing research infrastructure projects. Expected outcomes include inter-operability across major social science databases and new analytical tools that will transform the research capabilities for evidence-based policy making. Outcomes are expected on sustainable built environments and transport in urban and regional communities, social care and health in the community, work and wellbeing, digital inclusion and digital health.

This project is designed to analyse how employment outcomes in Australian regions respond to economic shocks such as that caused by COVID-19. Set within the emerging literature dealing with employment resilience, the project uses unique data (Payroll Jobs index) to measure employment resilience and understand the factors that impact diverse regional outcomes. Understanding these patterns is significant as a region's economic performance has the potential to impact the well being of individuals and their families, as well as the sustainability of local economies and communities. The project will result in a nuanced understanding of regional employment performance that will inform policy in both government and non-government sectors.

Evolutionary Dynamics and the Transformation of Rural Australia. Understanding the ways in which Australia's rural heartland has been transformed is critical to constructing competitive regions. This project aims to pioneer the application and development of evolutionary economic geography and staples theory to an investigation of the transformation of south-east and south-western Australia, covering the long boom of the post-war period, through the restructuring 'crisis' of the 1980s and 1990s, .... Evolutionary Dynamics and the Transformation of Rural Australia. Understanding the ways in which Australia's rural heartland has been transformed is critical to constructing competitive regions. This project aims to pioneer the application and development of evolutionary economic geography and staples theory to an investigation of the transformation of south-east and south-western Australia, covering the long boom of the post-war period, through the restructuring 'crisis' of the 1980s and 1990s, to a multifunctional countryside. The explanatory power of the local modelling 'tools' that this project is expected to develop moves beyond the 'one size fits all' suite of policy prescriptions, with the specific potential to inform rural and regional policy and practice.

This project aims to develop a policy appraisal tool that shows the consequences of land use decisions. The proposed integrated multi-level modelling framework—linked to models that monitor demographics evolution, travel demand, energy, labour, economy, housing and household dynamics—can assess sustainability, equity and economy. This framework is expected to help people make better decisions about housing, maintain system level properties such as price equilibrium, show the impact of land use in the transport system, and improve policy appraisal for city planning.
