Sanctuary and Security in Contemporary Australia: Muslim Women's Networks 1980 - 2005. This project makes an important contribution to Muslim women's participation in public life. It researches the scope and potential of social networks and, crucially, acknowledges that both religious practice and secular activities are legitimate facets of everyday multicultural society. Historical Records of Australia. To re-vitalize the research base of early Australian history by resuming the research, editing and publication of Historical Records of Australia, Series III and also to initiate, in similar form, the research, editing and publication of Historical Records of Australia Series I (Despatches and Documents relating to New South Wales), with the aim of completing Historical Records of Australia in approximately 60 volumes. The expected outcome will be to establish a ....Historical Records of Australia. To re-vitalize the research base of early Australian history by resuming the research, editing and publication of Historical Records of Australia, Series III and also to initiate, in similar form, the research, editing and publication of Historical Records of Australia Series I (Despatches and Documents relating to New South Wales), with the aim of completing Historical Records of Australia in approximately 60 volumes. The expected outcome will be to establish a new research base for the writing and interpreting of 19th century Australian history as well as completing the objective of the original founder of the series, Frederick Watson, who in 1914 observed that "history in its truest form can be founded only on a careful and studied examination of the records themselves".Read moreRead less
The face of the poor: a history of poverty through the eyes of the St Vincent de Paul Society. This project will develop a detailed understanding of the changing role of the church sector in the provision of 'front-line' social welfare. It will train a postgraduate student in the skills of archival and policy analysis, at a time when many welfare agencies are employing staff in research and policy functions. Schooling contributes significantly to the preparation of young people for citizenship so it is essential for the social infrastructure of the country that State Governments, employing authorities, teacher educators, the Federal Government and recruitment bodies better understanding the different motivational profiles of those entering teacher education now and why people are not retained in the profession, suffer burnout or become disgruntled less effective teachers. It is also critical that we better understand the link between motivations, self-efficacies and the support networks and strategies needed to sustain teachers in the profession, particularly in difficult to staff regions, districts and schools. History of the Victorian Women's Refuge Movement, 1974-2004. Using a rich archive of source material and in-depth interviews, this PhD project will trace the unique history of the women's refuge movement in Victoria, from its initiation in 1974 through to a period of significant change in 2004. In doing so, the project will consider the ways that a diverse range of organisations worked together to achieve significant social change. A multi-media history of the Westrail Workshops at Midland. The project will produce histories in two formats, a book and a CD-ROM featuring a virtual walk-through of the Workshops. These outcomes will reflect a variety of views and concepts of the Workshops and the community, gathered from the interviews, photographs, documentary and ephemeral material of past employees of the Workshops (collected from 1998-2001).
