A new branch of theoretical physics, quantum plasmadynamics (QPD), will be applied to plasmas under extreme conditions of magnetic field and density, to plasma-neutrino effects and nonlinear radiation. Magnetic energy dissipation in solar flares will be attributed to a large number of coupled, local, transient, anomalously resistive regions excited by current filamentation. The model will include nonlocal energy release at Alfvenic fronts, 3D reconnection at magnetic nulls, and bulk energization of electrons. `Coherence? in sources of coherent emission will be quantified and a model for its interpretation for highly intermittent wave growth will be formulated.

Complexity is the common frontier in the physical, biological and social sciences. This Network will link specialists in all three sciences through five generic conceptual and mathematical theme activities. It will promote research into how subsystems self-organise into new emergent structures when assembled into an open, non-equilibrium system. Outcomes will include new technologies and software tools and deeper understanding of fundamental questions in science. An essential function of the network will be introducing researchers end users to new tools and broadening the horizons of graduate students.

The physical notion of supersymmetry is a unifying principle which ensures that bosonic and fermionic particles in quantum physics obey the same fundamental laws. It has permeated the forefront of mathematical research since 1980s, leading to the creation of some of the deepest theories in diverse areas. The mathematical foundation of supersymmetry lies in the theory of Lie supergroups. This project addresses major outstanding problems in the geometry and representations of Lie supergroups and their quantum analogues. Results will be important to the quest for a consistent quantum theory of all the four interactions in nature.
