The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your
interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take
approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure
services including Reasearch Link Australia.
We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we
deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research
Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.
Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

Improving middle leading practices in schools to enhance student learning. This project aims to understand how middle leaders in schools can build teacher capacity to positively influence student learning. With Australian students falling behind their peers internationally, improving academic results is a national imperative. School-based professional learning for teachers is key to achieving that, and middle leaders are recognised as important facilitators of such learning. Using practice-based ....Improving middle leading practices in schools to enhance student learning. Using practice-based methodology, the project will study how their implementation of professional learning impacts on classroom teaching and student outcomes. The anticipated results will enable the development of practices to inform a charter of middle leadership best practice for improving teaching and learning in Australian schools. Read moreRead less
Knowing in professional practice: enhancing the relationship between professional education and practice. This research investigates the knowledge taught in professional education and its relationship to professional practice. It will provide a stronger basis for educating aspiring professionals, managing professional practice, and connecting professional education with practice.
Understanding and improving pilot learning and development at critical stages of their career: Maintaining airline safety in changing times. Pilot training has never been more important with intense competitive pressure on airlines to improve training in response to rapid growth and a tight supply of experienced pilots. Pilot training has never been more important with intense competitive pressure on airlines to improve training in response to rapid growth and a tight supply of experienced pilots. In an industry where economic imperatives and aircraft safety are tightly interlinked, regional airlines in particular are under pressure to recruit and promote less experienced pilots. The study aims to follow two cohorts of pilots at critical stages in their careers: new pilots entering an airline and first officers seeking promotion to Captain. This project aims to fill a gap in research on pilot training through closely observed investigation into how pilots learn to fly, creating innovations in pilot training, with applicability to other complex work environments.Read moreRead less
International study of mathematics teacher learning. This project aims to study teacher in-class learning for the improvement of teaching. Teachers learn from the act of teaching a lesson. Do teachers in different countries attend to different things and what do they learn from teaching a lesson? This project will create controlled conditions using purposefully-designed and trialled lesson plans to investigate the process of teacher knowledge construction. Teachers learn from the act of teaching a lesson. Do teachers in different countries attend to different things and what do they learn from teaching a lesson? This project will create controlled conditions using purposefully-designed and trialled lesson plans to investigate the process of teacher knowledge construction. This project combines focused case studies and an online survey of mathematics teachers’ selective attention and consequent learning in Australia, China and Germany. This project is expected to optimise teacher learning during the design and teaching of lessons.Read moreRead less
Molecular force sensing mechanisms of PIEZO channels. The aim of this project is to characterise the gating mechanism of Piezo mechanosensitive ion channels recently identified in animals and humans. Mechanotransduction is ancient, as indicated by the presence of mechanosensitive channels in bacteria where these channels are activated by the bilayer mechanism according to the force-from-lipids paradigm possibly applicable to gating of the Piezo channels as well. Piezo channels play a crucial rol ....Molecular force sensing mechanisms of PIEZO channels. Piezo channels play a crucial role in senses of touch and pain, and mutations in Piezo1 have been shown to cause Xerocytosis – a hereditary genetic disorder manifested in haemolytic anemia. This project aims to help answer fundamental questions in mechanotransduction in vertebrates.Read moreRead less
Advancing the application of Rasch models to the level of tests: estimating person parameters independently of all test parameters. The project advances recent theoretical work on Rasch models which makes it possible to compare estimates of person locations on a scale independently of all properties of the tests to which they have responded. The project aims to circumvent the current methods of test equating where various distribution assumptions are implied.
The impact of examiner feedback on doctoral learners and thesis outcomes. This project aims to investigate the final stage of doctoral examination across institutions in Australia, with particular emphasis on examiner feedback, candidate engagement with feedback, and the decision processes involved. This project expects to generate new knowledge in the least visible yet critical end stage of the doctoral examination process and its impact on thesis quality and candidate development. The expected ....The impact of examiner feedback on doctoral learners and thesis outcomes. This project expects to generate new knowledge in the least visible yet critical end stage of the doctoral examination process and its impact on thesis quality and candidate development. The expected outcomes will inform future examination models and contribute new knowledge on the role of feedback in doctoral examination, and assessment practices more generally.Read moreRead less
Excellent researchers: Using learner profiles to enhance research learning. Recent evidence concerning metacognitive learning and affect reveals that research degree candidates are a diverse group of learners, and little is known about explaining wasteful attrition, stress and delays in progress. Such a study is essential, especially given the growth in research degrees, new transitional pathways, diversity in candidate backgrounds and chronic high attrition. This longitudinal study applies new ....Excellent researchers: Using learner profiles to enhance research learning. This longitudinal study applies new findings about doctoral learning profiles in a direct intervention (DOCLearnPro) that targets individual differences across students in doctoral and master’s degrees to improve learning outcomes significantly and contribute theoretically, methodologically and substantively in order to advance understanding of researcher development.Read moreRead less
Sex education in Australia and New Zealand: responding to cultural and religious difference. This project will enhance the conceptualisation and provision of school-based sex education programs by deepening understanding of pertinent cultural and religious differences. The aim is to improve the sexual health and well-being of young people, in Australia and New Zealand, within and across cultural and religious divides.
