Tertiary education and social capital in Victoria: the effects of the new economy courses in Business and IT. The research will survey and interview Victorian 1500 graduates from 12 higher education and VET institutions (6 rural); and survey and interview employers and community leaders. A facility is proposed to support the collection, configuration, storage and analysis of data (particularly video data) related to learning and teaching in classrooms. The Co-Applicants currently direct major projects at all levels of institutionalised education from early-years to tertiary, particularly in mathematics and technology education. This project examines the causes of inequality of access to university places in Australia, with particular reference to the influence of household financial resources. The key hypothesis is that these resources shape the capacity of families to enrol their children in high performance secondary schools, either through attendance at private schools or through the capacity to reside in locations with access to top state schools.
