Strengthening intercultural relationships among Australia's rural youth. This project aims to investigate what strengthens and hinders intercultural relationships among young people in rural Australia. New patterns of migrant rural settlement, while crucial to economic and social stability, have created urgent challenges to intercultural relationships among rural youth from diverse local, refugee and migrant backgrounds living under conditions of economic precarity. This project plans to extend a large longitudinal study of young people in Queensland to investigate the impact of social, political and economic changes on educational, workforce, partnering, family and housing transitions in early adulthood. This project plans to extend a large longitudinal study of young people in Queensland to investigate the impact of social, political and economic changes on educational, workforce, partnering, family and housing transitions in early adulthood. The project is designed to combine large-scale survey research with in-depth qualitative interviewing to track stability and change in the values, aspirations, health and wellbeing of a cohort of young people who were first surveyed as secondary school students a decade earlier. This project intends to examine how health knowledge taken home by primary-aged children affects children’s wellbeing, family food practices and family relationships. Widespread public concern with obesity means children can be seen as advocates for change in family health practices. The project plans to investigate the consequences for children and families of primary school healthy eating programs, with particular attention ....Children as health advocates in families: assessing the consequences. Widespread public concern with obesity means children can be seen as advocates for change in family health practices. To combat the grave problem of modern slavery in supply chains, governments rely on consumers and investors to hold corporations accountable. Yet little is known about the critical role civil society plays in empowering citizens to serve this function. In this world-first study of an anti-slavery advocacy network, this project aims to investigate how civil society can mobilise ethical consumerism to combat slavery. The project will address public health needs by producing a framework to promote safer sex practices in commercial sexual encounters involving men, by considering the motivation and practice of those involved. It will also enhance our understanding of masculinity.

In urban China, high-income professionals and consumers have enormous influence on the development of élite education, travel, and cultural pursuits, but also on the stability of the Party-State. Living Alone in Australia Project (LAAP). This study investigates one aspect of the changing nature of Australia's social fabric. It asks whether the sharp rise in living alone reflects a breakdown in Australia's social fabric or simply marks a change in the way in which the fabric is woven. Living alone has important implications for social policy, service provision and housing. But before these implications are identified we need a much better understanding of who lives alone and what living ....Living Alone in Australia Project (LAAP).
