    Australian Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $275,000.00
    Summary
Quarantined ion chromatography mass spectrometry (IC-MS) facility. This proposal seeks to establish a quarantined facility for 'ion chromatography-mass spectrometry', to provide high resolution ion chromatographic and mass spectrometric analytical capability to the environmental, analytical/bioanalyical, and industrial science research communities. The state-of-the-art facility will represent the only quarantined high-resolution IC-MS facility within Australia, and therefore not only support the .... The state-of-the-art facility will represent the only quarantined high-resolution IC-MS facility within Australia, and therefore not only support the above communities within Australia, but the potential to facilitate research collaboration internationally, including supporting Australia's leading Antarctic Science programs.

Immobilised Lipid Chromatography for Membrane Protein Isolation and Analysis. Current techniques for membrane protein are inadequate for the emerging proteomic challenge, in which approximately 40% of proteins are predicted to be membrane associated. The aim of this proposal is to develop a new approach to purify membrane proteins using our recently-developed immobilised membrane chromatography materials. The present proposal will provide a new high-resolution separation technique that allows isolation and on-line mass analysis of complex mixtures of membrane proteins for subsequent proteomic analysis, high-throughput screening or structural studies and could form the basis for further development of new commercial tools for membrane protein analysis.

Hyphenated Separations/Mass Spectrometry Technology for Protein and Natural Product Characterisation. This proposal consolidates the 3 institutions' collaboration on the ACROSS (Australian Centre for Research on Separation Science) initiative, providing fundamental technology for chemical structural analysis of complex samples involving high resolution protein and natural product characterisation. Requested equipment supports complete characterisation of important novel target molecules. GCxGC-TOFMS technology will validate our newly patented multidimensional separation techniques. Q-TOF-TOFMS technology, novel patented protein prefractionation approaches, and sample handling with high resolution characterisation / identification of new target proteins allows advanced proteomics developments. Proteomics depends critically upon sophisticated MS techniques. These technologies will: ·enhance the capabilities and expertise in these sciences in the SE Australian area; ·ensure the ACROSS initiative achieves internationally competitive research capabilities; ·provide commercial endpoints in fields associated with analysis of proteins, essential oils and other natural (bio)substances.
