It is of great significance to provide a cohesive solution to the transport problem considering all modes, environmental impacts, and economical and social considerations. A Human Factors Approach to the Design of Visual Information in the Highway Environment. Visual information in the highway environment affects drivers' perception, behaviour, and accident propensity. Using a range of methods and approaches, issues of key importance in road design will be addressed, e.g. (1) how increasing visual clutter in the road environment affects accident-producing behaviour, (2) how certain road situations create particular problems for the increasing number of older drive ....A Human Factors Approach to the Design of Visual Information in the Highway Environment. Heavy vehicle peaks in the pattern of night-time road traffic noise: Human health and management of urban freight movement. The Australian road freight industry is a significant economic activity and is growing at an unprecedented rate. Also growing is community reaction to the health effects of truck noise, to the extent that it is recognised as a major constraint to future transport operations, particularly night-time movements in metropolitan areas and in rural towns. This project strengthens national approaches to a pervasive Australian problem; fringe urban and rural communities who are excluded from life opportunities due to lack of transport. Evidence suggests this problem is growing as fuel costs rise, the population ages and rural/fringe urban migration continues. Multidimensional evaluation of the overall benefits of voluntary travel behaviour change programs. Voluntary Travel Behaviour Programs (VTBC) offer considerable promise for the management of traffic congestion and reduction in greenhouse gas and air quality emissions from road transport. Research to date has identified two outstanding issues: (1) measurement and evaluation of actual behaviour change and (2) identification of the full benefits and impacts of VTBC. Research to date has identified two outstanding issues: (1) measurement and evaluation of actual behaviour change and (2) identification of the full benefits and impacts of VTBC. Empirical studies indicate that many of the benefits fall outside the transport area, including a wide range of socio-economic benefits to individuals and the community. As (relatively) cash rich and time poor, they have very high expectations in respect of levels of accessibility and mobility required from the transport system, as well as from other supporting networks. We currently lack policy-rich travel demand models to assist in understanding the complex dynamics that influence the travel activities of SAPS. Using ideas from stated choice methods, interactive agency choice experiments, panel econometrics and behavioural discrete choice models we propose a research program designed to understand these demands. Special focus is given to support networks and the ways in which these impact on the demand for car and public transport use, as well as meeting the access needs to health-support and leisure facilities and to supporting networks of family and friends.Read moreRead less
