Mapping the past using advanced technologies: Satellite applications for uncovering archaeological remains at Angkor. The University of Venice is a leader in remote sensing in archaeology, particularly the use of multispectral image analysis, while Australian researchers are at the forefront of research in Cambodia in a number of fields. Australia will benefit in particular from the transfer of expertise in remote sensing archaeology from Europe, where the use of these methods in archaeology is very well-established. This project will provide an excellent opportunity for the transfer of knowledge and expertise between the two groups; provide a framework for enduring cooperation; and enhance Australia's reputation as a leader in innovative applications of technology in the humanities and social sciences.
