Interest-based negotiation: theory and practice. The results of the project will provide theoretically sound technologies that can better support distributed resource and task allocation in complex problem solving settings. The combination of theoretical and practical outcomes from the research will enable these technologies to be applied in decision-making settings beyond those studied directly in the project. The results of the project will provide theoretically sound technologies that can better support distributed resource and task allocation in complex problem solving settings. The combination of theoretical and practical outcomes from the research will enable these technologies to be applied in decision-making settings beyond those studied directly in the project. The project contributes to Australia's ability to compete in the emerging international market for knowledge-based software applications. The project's key connections and integration with European research will also strengthen research collaboration and training opportunities for Australian based students.

Protecting Web Services from Distributed Denial of Service Attacks. Distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks bring a tremendous threat to web services on the Internet. Large amount of web services were pulled down worldwide by the DDoS attacks, with huge losses in business. Effective approaches to defeat DDoS attacks are desperately demanded. Most existing DDoS defense systems aim to only protect the victim network and are not fully integrated. In this project we propose a novel defense system to protect web services from DDoS attacks. Our system is one of the first systems that have a mixture deployment in both victim end and attack source end, and integrated capabilities of intrusion surveillance, traffic control, and traceback, thus achieve better control results over other mechanisms.

This project aims to develop new techniques that are more easily adapted to specific applications than current methods. There are a range of benefits in developing this technology including but not limited to: improved mapping of terrorist networks that can aid early identification of security threats; improved design and analysis of communication networks, either for the telecommunications industry or for emergency and disaster management scenarios such as bushfires; improved access to biological network databases used in the study of metabolic processes critical to drug development and genetic research.

Supporting adaptive diagrammatic communication. The computing environment of the near future will allow users to access and interact with digital information using an incredible variety of devices. Regardless of these changes, humans will still be communicating using diagrams and sketches. Supporting adaptive diagrammatic communication. The computing environment of the near future will allow users to access and interact with digital information using an incredible variety of devices. Regardless of these changes, humans will still be communicating using diagrams and sketches. But unlike today where diagrams are static, lifeless objects reflecting their origin in print media, the computer of the near future will provide more flexible visual computer interfaces which support adaptive layout, user interaction and semantics based retrieval. Based on geometric constraint solving, this project will provide a generic computational basis for this radically new view of diagrams.

This project addresses a problem of real concern in relation to national and state government policies for promoting an innovation culture and economy. This project does this at the base level of schools by creating effective education learning environments that will encourage creative and innovative citizens of the future. This detailed examination of the collaborative design process and the day to day functioning of the physical setting, including the use of smart technologies, focusing on stakeholder needs for 21st Century success, will assist in identifying the role of intelligent design in assisting a schools to deliver education for innovation.

Minimising the inappropriate and unnecessary hospital admissions of frail older people. The health system will continue to experience massive pressures in both fiscal and human resource terms. Older patients present with multiple, complex conditions and tend to be admitted because clinicians often do not have the time to explore other options. This project will develop and evaluate a unique and robust model for minimising inappropriate hospital admissions through rapid assessment of suitability for home care and complete referral information for safety and quality.
