Distributed systems (clusters, grids, peer-to-peer) are the mainstay of many new applications. This has the potential of providing consumers with much more timely, accurate, and comprehensive information on which to base major decisions in financial, medical, and other areas. As with any new technology, related applications should be designed and implemented in such a way that users can depend on the application's availability and results, which is the main focus of this network. The CIs will collaborate in several ways, ranging from basic research to applications, to enable the creation and maintenance of highly dependable computer systems and networked applications.

Australian e-Research Grid. The e-Research Grid program will research and implement core Grid technologies on APAC and partner's deployed HPC resources, to underpin a broad range of Australian research. The computer science CIs will form collaborative links with international programs, adapting developments to local circumstances. The applications-domain CIs will leverage those into their scientific simulations and databases, using grid integrative techniques and portals. Many CIs participate in ....Australian e-Research Grid. The computer science CIs will form collaborative links with international programs, adapting developments to local circumstances. The applications-domain CIs will leverage those into their scientific simulations and databases, using grid integrative techniques and portals. Many CIs participate in other RNs linking to their motivating applications, enhancing prospects for research and integration. They participate in the APAC Grid program, leveraging 75 HPC staff nationally. A key aim is interoperability with "real-world Grids": eg e-learning & e-health programs.Read moreRead less

The Australian e-Astronomy Research Network will build on and extend the LIEF-funded national program to participate in the International Virtual Observatory. The network includes key members of most Australian astronomy research groups, a strong group representing grid research and advanced computing partnerships and an extensive group of international experts. The network developed by Australian e-Astronomy will service the entire Australian astronomical research community (eg theory codes, databases, software telescopes) and provide new programs for postgraduate research training.Read moreRead less
A Commercially Viable, Innovative XML - Enabled Association Rule Framework. The pervasive nature of the Web has raised two important issues, namely (1) how to exchange data between isolated information systems within two different companies with their own data formats and (2) how to store information particularly documents, so that they can be accessed through the internet based on their meaning. The pervasive nature of the Web has raised two important issues, namely (1) how to exchange data between isolated information systems within two different companies with their own data formats and (2) how to store information particularly documents, so that they can be accessed through the internet based on their meaning. The Extended Markup Language XML has emerged as the favoured means of addressing these issues and this is leading to an explosive growth in the information stored in this way. This project addresses the issue of determination of patterns and knowledge in information stored in XML through datamining.Read moreRead less

Information technology and communication is responsible for nearly 80% of all productivity growth in the Australian services sector. A critical strategic alignment decision is the trade-off between investments in shared corporate IT infrastructure and individual business unit IT applications. The current response is to establish elaborate IT governance, reporting controls aimed at balance and compromise across the organization. Our model will provide a deeper understanding of what should be built as shared corporate IT infrastructure and as IT applications within individual strategic business units. This research will enable Australian industry to get greater value from its existing levels their expenditure in IT.Read moreRead less
