Better Planning for and Managing Asymmetric Threats to Australia's Security: Applying the Field Anomaly Relaxation (FAR) Systems Thinking Approach. Despite an enviable national security condition, Australia is at risk in an information-abundant world that increasingly spawns asymmetric threats such as information terrorism. What is needed are enhanced strategic and operational structures to improve the nation's security and ensure sound futures planning. This research focuses on applying the Field Anomaly Relaxation (FAR) systems thinking approach to asymmetric information warfare threats to Australia. This is a new approach previously developed by ECU researchers investigating risk and innovation in the armed forces. It will now be extended to improve professional practice and the knowledge and skill base of Australia's information defence practitioners.

Information Systems Enabled Corporate Transformation: Evaluation of Electronic Customer Relationship Management in the Service Sector. Customer relationship management (CRM) is a business and marketing strategy that integrates technology, process and business activities around the customer. Only 30% of electronic CRM efforts have been successfully implemented because stakeholder expectations are typically neglected. This issue underlines the importance of the ?soft? organisational issues involved with the evaluation of information systems. By evaluating the change management process and modelling the impact of e-CRM enabled change, management strategies will be developed to enable its successful implementation. The research will provide a greater understanding for evaluating the performance of e-CRM solutions, as well as uncover opportunities for organisational related change.

The offshore outsourcing of business processes is a new, largely unexplored and under-theorised area that is placing great pressure on Australian organisations. This research aims to develop models of best practice for offshoring by Australian organisations through a series of cases studies commencing with the industry partner, Repcol Limited. The research will identify what business processes are core, what processes can be offshored, whether to use third parties or have captive operations, and what factors need to be addressed in order to utilise offshoring to strengthen Australian organisations and enable them to take advantage of global strategic opportunities for growth.
